Setting your goal by the Bible

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

We often hear people say they plan to have such & such by the time they are a certain age.

Some seek jobs which are higher paying.

After we become a Christian, our goals should be set by that which we read in the Bible and by that which God shows us to do in this present life.

Paul gave us a significant warning about the pursuit of money as a goal.

Paul warned:

II Timothy 5:12    Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

(When you hear a person say things showing they think gain to be a sign of godliness, withdraw yourself from that person.  Don't keep company any longer with such a person.  His goals are wrong.)

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

(Taking that job because it pays more money is very dangerous to you and can ruin your life, putting you in the wrong job and with the wrong type of people.  To do that also shows "a love of money" in you.  This is what the world does.  You as the church should pursue something very different from money.)

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

I Timothy  6:17-19   Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

The world seeks after all these things.

We, who are of God, know all things are to be destroyed in the end.

II Peter 3:10-14    But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Romans 12:2    And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

As we read the Bible and think on the Holy Scriptures, we see the way of God for us, confirmed by the Holy Spirit of God.

We pursue that which God chooses for us.

When I watch TV, I see people doing exactly opposite from the Bible in the pursuit of that which their own flesh desires.

Galatians 5:19-21    Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness (defrauding others), lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft (superstitions), hatred, variance (arguing & debating), emulations (trying to outdo another person), wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Colossians 3:1-4    If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.
