Even in Paul's day, they were trying to change the doctrines of Christ

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

Paul said to Timothy:

I Timothy 1:2-4    Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.  As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith:

All through Paul's writing in Bible, we see Paul earnestly contending for the faith in the doctrines of Christ.

And Paul warned the church:

Acts 20:28-30    Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which He hath purchased with His own blood.
For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

And Paul knew it would get much worse in the church as we drew farther along.

II Timothy 3:1-3    This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves  ...  5   Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

(They would have a "form of godliness" but they would deny the power of the scriptures to rule over them.)

6-7   For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

13    But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

(Paul told us what to do in the midst of this deception.)

14-16   But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The doctrine of the church was the doctrine of the people.  Unfortunately the doctrine of the churches changed from the Bible and what the church taught changed.  The  people went along with the change as the church changed the doctrine.  This is antichrist.  This is the apostasy.

It wasn't so much that the congregation held to Bible.  The congregation held to what they were told at church.

The leaders in the various churches once taught scripture.  When I read secular books, novels, written around the period of 1800-1850, I see beliefs very close to Bible doctrine, especially concerning divorce and remarriage.

While the changing of doctrine in the church has gone on since the days of Paul, we see a very marked move in the decades since approximately 1936, as church groups fell away from Bible doctrines and set up another way for the people in the churches to go.

King of England, Edward VIII, in 1936, renounced the throne of England in order to marry a divorced woman.

The people of England, at that time, would never approve a divorced woman as their queen.

At that time, they were taught that divorce was "wrong,"  though they likely weren't taught the exact scripture.

This doctrine fit scripture which says the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.  Matthew 5:32 & Matthew 19:9

But it all changed.

Somehow the doctrine in the churches fell away from such doctrine of the Bible.  Soon decades passed and the word of God on the subject evaporated with the new society, although the Bible remained the same.

What we have seen is what Paul described in II Thessalonians 2 as "the falling away."

KJV ... Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (of the LORD) shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.  (man ruling over scripture in the churches and opposing scripture and exalting himself above scripture as he changes the doctrine in the churches)

When churches fell away from portions of scripture, antichrist moved in and the apostasy in the churches began as Paul said it would do before the return of Jesus.  II Thessalonians 2  NASB

The "restraint" which held antichrist back from the church group was the scripture.  When portions of scripture were removed or changed, the restraint was removed.

That is what we are seeing today as various doctrines change from the Bible.

One example:

I Corinthians 7:10-11   And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:  But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

In some church groups, homosexuals are even ordained to be their ministers although in Bible both homosexuals and lesbians are identified as those who go "against nature."  And such is called "vile affections."  Romans 1

Some church people have gone along with society and have begun to call drunkenness a disease.  The Bible calls drunkenness a work of the flesh (a sin) and says they who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.   Galatians 5

*****

In all these changes in church doctrine, we see what Paul spoke of in II Thessalonians 2.

NASB

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it (the day of the LORD) will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.  Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed

(That which restrained, held back, antichrist was the scripture, THE WORD, Jesus)

If you have been bewildered  by the change of doctrine in your churches, you can know what you are seeing is apostasy in the church as described in Bible by Paul.

(I've heard people say things are "watered down" now at their church service.  It is like adding water to wine to dilute it, to make it more palatable, thus removing the power of the scripture by adding to the scripture and by their interpretations which often explain away scripture.)

We do not go along with this change from Bible but rather we continue to cling to Bible doctrine.
