Recently another woman and I were talking about how we enjoy going to Pier One. I was thinking about this and thinking of how
"the flesh profits nothing". (Jn. 6:63) But it seems to profit something. It
seems to make us alive. But this alive is so temporary and it is only
flesh ... but the Word of the Lord endures forever.
Jesus said ... It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Jn. 6:63
The things of the flesh excites us but rapidly fades and fail to satisfy us.
Jn. 16:11... Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Sometimes we do things of the flesh and mind. It is important to recognize them for what they are in that they are very temporary and fade quickly. We do not want to get caught up in such by trying to satisfy the flesh by repeated fleshly events for the flesh will never really be satisfied. No matter what we do there will be more to do and even then it will not satisfy for there is always more. We pass a little time with fleshly things: TV, books, shopping, repair of house ... but we keep in mind we are only passing time with these and they really are not important for they will all be destroyed when God shakes the heavens and they will pass away as a vapor, as unimportant as they really are. And often they fade so quickly that the thing we noticed and pursued is ignored when we get the object. Everything we can see with our natural eye fades in importance given time and events.
But the Word of God does satisfy us and helps to keep the flesh under control.
