I Timothy 2
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Comments by Joan Boney:
I do not vote in elections nor am I registered to vote in any political party in USA.
I try to avoid hearing either politician speak evil of the other candidate in elections.
I do believe as a Christian I should pray for which ever person is elected as President.
(If they come on TV while I am watching, I often mute the sound to avoid hearing their ads or their speaking for there is often much evil in their attack on the opposite party and they often teach hatred of the other person or party if we allow their words to go into us.)
So far as I can tell, the governments of the USA do not require us to do anything opposite to what I read in the New Testament Bible. For this, we can be grateful.
I do not believe we can legislate godliness or righteousness. We who are born again by the Spirit of God know it was the will of God that we belong to God and not our own "goodness". God simply chose us for salvation and made a way through Jesus Christ.
In fact, the apostle Paul said this concerning those who are not born again.
I Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
I expect the church to live by the Word of God of the Holy Bible. But I do not expect the world to live as the scriptures say and I even know the world cannot be as the church.

The apostle Paul tells us, the church, the following:
2 Timothy 2
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
(So we who speak of faith in God must first be born again and live by the fruits of the Spirit of God living by faith in the Word of God.)
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
