There are several ways to deal with spirits that bring destructive thoughts.

John 4

1  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

For several days this past week, I kept feeling that I'm not doing well enough and that I'm even going to be cut off from God.

Of course I kept crying out to God for help.  Then I was reminded of I John 4:1-3. So I said to that spirit, "Do you confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh?"

No answer ... So I asked again ... and this second time I heard a very faint sounding, "no".

No more attacks since then.

(Notice the Holy Spirit showed me what to do in this matter and that works when we follow the Holy Spirit.)
