Adornment for godly women

Pam Padgett ... teacher

1Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Many women have great pride in the fleshly beauty they have attained through makeup, hair fashions, jewelry, and clothes.  Focusing on the flesh and exalting the flesh, they seek to draw attention to themselves by their outward appearance.

But we're taught another way ... modest (decent and proper) apparel , shamefacedness (not proudly exalting the flesh, but humbling ourselves before the Word of God), soberness.

We deal with our outward appearance, but in decent and proper ways before God.

Rather than consuming ourselves with outward beauty, our desire is to be continually renewed within (our inward man) by focusing on and doing the Word of God.  We want to exalt God and His Word, not the flesh, in our lives and to bring forth that which is good in the sight of God.

We seek praise from God, not from man.

Proverbs 31:30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
