What salt does in Matthew 4

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

In Mt. 4, Jesus said:  13 Ye are the salt of the earth:but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world.

Salt brings out the flavor of the food.  Without salt, food is rather tasteless.

When we speak scripture by the Spirit of God, the flavor of that scripture comes forth.

For example ... In Mt. 5:32, Jesus explained to the people the following:  31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery:and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Jesus brought in a new concept concerning the subject of divorce.  Jesus showed what would happen when a man divorced a woman.

If the woman was faithful, that man would cause her to commit adultery if he divorced her for if she remarried it she would commit adultery ... but the husband who divorced her would be held responsible for the cause of her adultery because he divorced a faithful wife.

And the man who married the divorced woman would also commit adultery.

This is strong salt!

When we speak truth of the scriptures, we are that salt that brings out the real flavor of the scripture and creates life.

==========

Concerning divorce:  In the Bible, only a man had the right of divorce.  The woman could leave her husband but had no right of divorce, therefore she could not divorce her husband.

Thus Paul explains:  I Cor.  7 ... 10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband:and let not the husband put away his wife.

Most of the world today lives a way different from Bible.

Women today in most of the world can divorce their husbands.  But this does not mean it is right in the sight of God.  In NT church, a woman could leave her husband but must not remarry, according to "the commandment the LORD gave" spoken by Paul in I Cor. 7.  Women did not have right of divorce in NT church.  They could not divorce husband.

And in sight of God, that man is warned against divorcing his wife for any reason other than her committing fornication.  Mt. 5:32

And in NT church, a man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery, according to Jesus.  Mt. 5:32

This is true salt that brings out the meaning of what Jesus said in Mt. 5:32.

32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery:and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Pam Padgett had also been considering salt from words in Mt. 5 ... and she told me salt preserves the food.

Certainly much of the salt has been removed from scripture by the various church groups as they seek to please man and have big numbers of people come to their gathering.  It is interesting for by those big numbers of people they also end up troubling themselves.

At one point, I attended a secular dinner.  One of the men seated at my table, beside me, was wearing around his neck the largest cross I have ever seen.  (If a person really understood what the cross means I doubt he would want to hang one around his own neck.)

This man said he was retired pastor from Indiana Baptist Church.  He said they had such a problem at his church.  There were so many people they kept having trouble seating everyone.  He kept on about this for a few minutes.

Then I spoke up and said to him, "If you would teach what Jesus said, that the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery, then about 1/2 of the people would leave you and you wouldn't have any more trouble seating them."  Dead silence followed from him.
