Podcast: God raises up Jehu to destroy king Ahab and the evil queen Jezebel

Jehoshaphat did that which was right in the sight of God, but his son, Jehoram did not do that which was right in the sight of God.  His wife was the daughter of evil king of Israel, Ahab.

When we see the name "Ahab" associated with someone, we can look for evil.  For Ahab and his wife Jezebel excelled in evil works and God had proclaimed that Ahab's descendants would be slain also.

Jehu is chosen by God to kill the descendants of Ahab and also to kill Jezebel.

II Kings 8

25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.

26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.

27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.

28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

Both nations of Judah and Israel often do evil in the sight of God.

God will raise up a destroyer to deal with the house of Ahab and his descendants.  That destroyer is Jehu.

II Kings 9  (Prophecy of God over Jehu)

7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of MY servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.

8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:

9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:

10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.

When Jehu is king of Israel, he finds Jezebel and has her killed.

II Kings 9

30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. (upstairs window)

31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master? (Jezebel spoke this against Jehu.)

32 And he (Jehu) lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.

33 And he said (concerning Jezebel), Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.

34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter.

(But they found nothing to bury for the dogs ate Jezebel according to the prophecy of God spoken by Elijah the prophet.)

35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

(Prophecy over Jezebel:  I Kings 21:23  And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.)

Earlier God shows Elijah the prophet the following:

I Kings 19

15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

God destroys the house of the wicked and God tells HIS prophets of that destruction which is to come to the wicked.

II Corinthians 5

9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of HIM.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;
