* Malachi 4

1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

2 But unto you that fear MY name
(The WORD) shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in HIS wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

(Comments by Joan Boney)

As a new Christians and early years of being a Christian (1975-79), I spent a lot of time in the above scriptures of Malachi 4:2-3.

It was so clear to me that the fear of the Lord, was a fearful respect for the Word of God.

I believe this really helped me to choose the Word above all things when controversy surfaced between the Word and the things contrary to the Word came at churches I was attending.

I just held to the Word and left the church where something opposite to that Word was being spoken.

Malachi 4

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet (John the Baptist) before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:

6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

John the Baptist came more than 2,000 years ago.  We should see the last days were much farther back that we might think.

Matthew 11

7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus,  the apostle John told the New Testment church that  they were living in "the last days" and there were already "many" antichrists in the church groups of their day.

I John 2

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

And the apostle Paul said to the elders of the church at Ephesus:

Acts 20

25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with His own blood.

29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

These antichrists were in the church even as Paul spoke to the elders at Ephesus and they were just waiting to come in and speak "perverse things" to turn the church away to themselves.

It is much worse now.  Entire church groups have fallen away from specific scriptures as Paul said had to happen before Jesus could return.

II Thessalonians 2

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

(The falling away would be church groups falling away from scripture.  NASB calls this "the apostasy",)

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

(Those antichrist rule over scripture and thereby show themselves to be "god" as they change the doctrines from scripture in the churches and set up doctrines other than those written in the New Testament Bible.  We see this right now, in our time!)

The stage is set now, in our time, for the return of Jesus.
