Volume 11 ... #27

Communion? What is it? What does it mean in the church?

In reading a book, a woman said to another person in the book, "I want to have communion with you," meaning have a conversation with that person.

Even though it was a secular book, I began to think about what it really means when a person mentions "communion."

*****

What is communion?

Basically "communion" means to have a conversation with another ... to interact ... to share thoughts or feeling with another.

How can anyone really think they connect with God through crackers and grape juice?

*****

How do we commune with God?

We connect with God through prayer and obeying the Word of God.

JESUS, THE WORD, is our connection with God.

Anything else is ridiculous, fleshly, religious nonsense.

The bread of life is Jesus, the Word.

Jn. 1:14 ... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld HIS glory, the glory as of the ONLY BEGOTTEN of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Jesus says ...

Jn. 6:49-51  I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

I am THE LIVING BREAD which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is MY FLESH, which I will give for the life of the world.

Jn. 6:53-58  ... Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink HIS blood, ye have no life in you.

Whoso eateth MY flesh, and drinketh MY blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For MY flesh is meat indeed, and MY blood is drink indeed. He that eateth MY flesh, and drinketh MY blood, dwelleth in ME, and I in him.

As the living Father hath sent ME, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth ME, even he shall live by ME. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

THE WORD OF GOD ... is the flesh of Jesus and the blood of Jesus.

As we eat and drink the Word of God, we commune with God and with Jesus, showing ourselves to be joined to them as one.

We "examine ourselves" by the Word of God ... thus partaking of the Word of God in an appropriate way by applying THAT WORD to our lives.

This is what is meant by I Cor. 11.

27-31  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep (die). For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

You cannot examine yourself or judge yourself by crackers and grape juice.  This is fleshly religious nonsense.

We examine ourselves and judge ourselves by the Word of God by the Spirit of God.

In this there is power of God.

The Spirit of God said this to me concerning crackers and grape juice.

"Neither are you better if you eat, nor worse if you don't eat."

This is simply a church religious idol.

Jesus said:

Lk. 22:20 ... This cup is the new testament in MY blood, which is shed for you.

I Cor. 11:25 ... After the same manner also HE took the cup, when HE had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in MY blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of ME.

The Lord's supper is partaking of THE WORD OF GOD.
