Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet
I Tim. 6 ... 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness:from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil:which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
Paul is certainly speaking of fleeing a pursuit of money ... but yesterday when I was reading this I was thinking of the way Pam and I both fled those things the golf announcers were saying as they enticed the audience this past week end as they spoke of a golfer who had the chance to make history if he won ... a heavy yoke of man ... That golfer did not win.
Pursuit of riches could certainly be the pursuit of worldly records ... which humans often set up as goals... These are very hard yokes of man. And they seem so important without being that important. These "honors" which humans desire seem so important. But do these honors follow after death? No. That which is important after death is what God has to say. We who follow HIM please HIM.
Does it matter for the next life if we earn a doctorate on this earth? Does it matter if we rise to the top of a profession? Does it matter if we are listed in the history books of man?
What matters in the next life?
Therefore Paul warns us: 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and
follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto
thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many
witnesses.
