For many decades, prophets and preachers have been warning the church that Jesus is coming "quickly". We even see in the Bible that the apostles of the Bible were saying HE was coming soon.
Revelation 22 Jesus says:
12 And, behold, I come quickly; and MY reward is with ME, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do HIS commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

But 2,000 years have passed since Jesus said HE comes "quickly" ...
So what makes us today feel the end is near?
Two things had to happen before Jesus comes.
1. The churches had to "fall away" from scripture, whereby antichrist could come into the church.
(Churches would "fall away" from scripture thus allowing antichrist to come into the church and set up his own doctrines, eliminating many of the doctrines of Christ.)
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
That has already happened and continues to happen in church groups today.

2. The gospel had to be preached all over this world.
That has already happened.

The apostle John told us even in his own time, there were many antichrists in the churches.
I John 2
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
The apostle Paul confirms this in the Bible for Paul said, to the elders at the church at Ephesus, that he knew there were among those elders men who were just waiting to take over the church, "speaking perverse things", to draw away disciples after themselves. Acts 20:29-30

Peter explains time as follows:
II Peter 3
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of HIS coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
(In our way of looking at time, two-thousand years have passed since the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus and the heavens and earth continue as always. But in the sight of God, time has only been 2 days, for God sees 1,000 years as one day.)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

And the fact that churches have already fallen away from doctrines of Christ, scripture, and have set up their own doctrines which let antichrist into their churches, and the gospel has already been preached all over this world, and wickedness of man increases, allows us to know the season of the end is upon us.
I Thessalonians 5
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

II Peter 3
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Jesus tells us the following:
Luke 21
34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (over indulgence), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, (which causes you to be) accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Therefore our role at this point in time is to pray over all that concerns us and to pray over all our plans, and to watch the way we are currently living to see that we are living in the directions of scripture.
We must not allow anyone or anything to interfere with our way of life in Christ, The Word.
