1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to
vex certain of the church. 2And he killed James the brother of John
with the sword. 3And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded
further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered
him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter
to bring him forth to the people. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without
ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6And when Herod would have
brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two
soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept
the prison.
7And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a
light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised
him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his
hands. 8And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy
sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about
thee, and follow me.
9And he went out, and followed him; and wist not
that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a
vision.
10When they were past the first and the second ward, they came
unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of
his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and
forthwith the angel departed from him.
11And when Peter was come to
himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his
angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the
expectation of the people of the Jews.
12And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of
Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were
gathered together praying. 13And as Peter knocked at the door of the
gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. 14And when she knew
Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and
told how Peter stood before the gate. 15And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door,
and saw him, they were astonished. 17But he, beckoning unto them with
the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had
brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto
James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another
place.
18Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the
soldiers, what was become of Peter. 19And when Herod had sought for him,
and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they
should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and
there abode.
20And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but
they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s
chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was
nourished by the king’s country.
21And upon a set day Herod, arrayed
in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not
of a man. 23And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he
gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the
ghost.
24But the word of God grew and multiplied. 25And Barnabas and Saul
returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and
took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

Standing on the Word of God series: Example 15
From Pam Padgett
When I bought my house several years ago a golf course was right behind my property. I found it pleasant to have the openness of that area and to sometimes see wildlife like fox and geese.
But then almost 2 years ago the golf course closed. The homeowner's association for this area notified us that the owner of the golf course was trying to sell the land, probably to a developer who would build houses on the land.
Last summer one of my neighbors told me about meetings that were planned by homeowners in this community to join together to try to fight having the property sold to a developer who would build lots of houses on what is now open land.
When I first heard about these meetings, my flesh was very strongly "set on fire" to get involved in all of this, wanting do something to try to keep the openness. I even asked the neighbor to let me know if she heard when the first meeting was scheduled.
But then I turned to God with this and was reminded to take no thought for tomorrow:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:33-34)
There was no problem for me "today" where the golf course land was concerned. I just need to do each day what I am led by God to do that day, and not worry and try to deal with what may (or may not) happen in the future. God knows what I need and how to work out my life according to HIS purpose as I go in the way HE leads me.
I was also reminded of the following scripture together with an understanding that people try to keep things from changing (certainly this is what I wanted to do). But all the things we see now are temporary and will be destroyed at the end of this world.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
I need to be diligent to be in peace, without spot, and blameless, not striving to keep temporary things of this world in place, such as the openness of the land behind my house.
I started focusing on these things, and worked to not let my mind think about tomorrow and be willing for God to work this out as HE willed. Trying to conform my thinking and what I did in this matter according to Matt. 6:34 and 2 Peter 3:10-14.
Also I didn't go to any of the homeowners meetings nor try to keep up with was was being done at these meetings. The purpose of the meetings was to plan for tomorrow and fight to keep worldly things in place. (Without asking I did hear that there was a lot of strife at the meetings as various people fought for what they thought was best in dealing with the problem. I was very glad to have been led by these scriptures to not go to these meetings.)
It took work to keep what God has said about this matter from slipping. It seems wrong to people of this world when we don't join them in fights like this. There was kind of a shame the few times I was asked if I was involved in these efforts and I said "no".
When someone would mention something about the golf course situation to me, I found myself reviewing Matt. 6:34 and 2Peter 3:10-14 in my mind. And I tried to pray about what to say and to say that, and not get carried away with their words.
Another thing I did to keep going in the way shown in these scriptures was to avoid some of the people who live down the street. From previous very minor issues that have come up in the neighborhood and comments I had heard these people make after the golf course first closed, they would likely be irate over the thought of houses being built on the golf course land. I felt it wasn't wise to put myself in the way of these people. Whereas I once would have walked past their house when trying to train my dogs to walk nicely on a leash and to greet people, I started taking the dogs on other streets.
(While writing this, I recalled an email which was sent to homeowners in this area to let us know the golf course has been sold to a developer, and thought of the strife and futility I've been kept from by focusing on, and clinging to, the scriptures given me in this matter. )

Husband home from hospital helps wife through prayers
John and Linda Rodgers ... Members of body of Christ
When I was having trouble with my truck yesterday, the repair place ran all the tests and could not find what was wrong. John (husband) prayed and asked God to give them what they needed to find what was wrong. They decided to take another test run and when they did, the truck stalled, just like it did with me. This narrowed the problem down for them and they were able to track it to the ignition coil that was malfunctioning and were able to finally make a decision on what to fix. This happened about 30 minutes after John had prayed and they called us back with the good news. I was very glad John remembered to pray and we know God answers prayer.

It can be so difficult to work through mechanical things for when I take car in often it won't make the same noise it made with me.
God, The Father, takes even better care of me for God knows everything and HE is always with me and HE never dies. My dad would have done anything he was able to do for me. But humans aren't always able. Humans are limited. God is always able in every way in everything.

My dad was a very good mechanic.
In the 60's he bought me a new car which I liked very much.
But
there was a problem with the car. I would be driving along and step on
brakes and brake pedal would go all way to floor and I would have to
pump break or deliberately hit curb to stop the car.
My
dad searched for the problem and never found it. (I suspect he thought I
was somehow missing the break pedal.) The problem only happened once in
awhile but when it did this it was terrifying.
One
day I was in the town where my mother and dad lived. We were in my car
and my dad was driving. He stepped on break and there were no brakes.
My dad was shocked.
He got rid of that car that same day and bought me another new car.
My dad took good care of me.
Judges 2 ... Viewing the works of God through scripture
1 And an angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you. 2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars:but ye have not obeyed my voice:why have ye done this?
3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the Lord spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim:and they sacrificed there unto the Lord.
6 And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land. 7 And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord, that he did for Israel. 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being an hundred and ten years old. 9 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. 10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers:and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim:12 And they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger. 13 And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.
14 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
15 Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them:and they were greatly distressed.
distressed:
- suffering from anxiety, sorrow, pain
- impoverished (made poor/exhaust strength & vitality)
16 Nevertheless the Lord raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them. 17 And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them:they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the Lord; but they did not so.
18 And when the Lord raised them up judges, then the Lord was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge:for it repented the Lord because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.
19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.
20 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice; 21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:22 That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. 23 Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
(In Judges 1, we see several of the tribes of Israel who did not drive out the other nations and lived in cities with other nations. These would be problems for Israel.)

Isaiah 1:26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
After Jesus arose, he gave "gifts" to the church. After the resurrection of Jesus ministry offices were given to the church. Eph. 4 ... 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
The ministry office of apostle is like the judges of the OT. Apostles work to set correct doctrine in place in the church. Antichrist sets false doctrine and removes correct doctrine to allow the people to exalt themselves in the churches and live in sin and feel approved in their sin.
NT apostles, establish correct doctrine.

God said to Joshua:
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life:as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee:I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: Joshua 1
When the people obeyed God and followed HIM, they overcame their enemies and destroyed the nations and their gods. God was with them when they feared HIM and obeyed HIM. No man could stand before them. And all the nations feared them because God was for them and by the works those nations saw God was with these people.
My cousin's husband, who was a medical doctor and highly praised by men of the world, said he was afraid of me. (as he should be) He did not mean this as a compliment but I knew it was a compliment for I did not worship him and his wisdom as others around him worshiped him and he knew I didn't.
My cousin told me they visited a small Church of Christ group while traveling across country and she said, "I wish you could have been there to see them honor Charles (her husband)."
It was a terrible thing to hear that a church group would honor a man this way and make respect of persons this way in the congregation.
Charles is dead now.
My cousin told me again, the last time we spoke by phone, that Charles was afraid of me. Again this was not meant as a compliment but as condemnation toward me.
I said nothing to her. But I know no man (or woman) can stand before me for I know God causes this by giving me HIS word which I speak from HIM. And when I speak, they hate me though they call Jesus their Lord. Their father is really the devil. If Jesus were their Lord, they would love me for the words I speak are from HIM. They hate me and they hate HIM though they call him Lord. I know this.
When we are of God and carry HIS word in us and speak of HIM, the world will hate us as they hate HIM. And they will be afraid of us and hate to see us coming toward them. They will flee us when they can. This is a way of life in Christ for us. Because through us they see their sin or sense their sin and the light from us shines on their darkness and exposes them and they are made very uncomfortable by us.
3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Overcoming everything in life
Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet
In Romans 8, Paul told he he was persuaded that neither death nor life could separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus ...
Life throws many things at us ... Jesus said not to worry about tomorrow, take care of today ... 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Mt. 6
We, who are of God, overcome through God, by turning to God in prayer. Then by doing that which is shown us by God. God may show us a way to deal with the matter ... or God may give us grace to be able to endure the situation. Either way, we overcome through God through prayer and believing what HE shows us and doing that which we are shown. Thus we find nothing overcomes us ... We do not fall into traps of the world for God helps us. We do not have to be depressed nor are we overcome by the various things that happen in this life when we have access to God and belong to HIM.
Thus Paul says ...
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through HIM that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8
What about physical illness ... Do we overcome even in physical illness?
When there is a physical problem what we need is wisdom... what to do in the problem? We pray to see what we should do. Do we go to doctor? Do we wait? Is there any other information God would give us? You might need a medical doctor ... you might not need a medical doctor in the situation. What you do need is to know what to do. So when there is a problem we pray, asking God what to do.
These bodies are built "corruptible", they will perish. These physical bodies are not going with us when we leave this earth. I Cor. 15 .. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
We overcome even concerning physical problems. First we recognize the important thing is the soul and the keeping of our soul. We realize the physical body is temporary. And we know from the Bible God will not allow things to happen to us that we cannot endure. (I Cor. 10:13)
I Cor. 10:13 ... 13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
Paul wanted to be healed from his physical problem. Paul prayed for the problem to be removed. In Paul's case, that was not going to happen. God explained to Paul, My grace is sufficient for thee: II Cor. 12:9
Concerning physical problems: God might heal you. God might have you go to medical doctor. God might show you that you will need to live with that problem.
This should not affect the word of God in our lives. If we belong to God we rejoice in HIM regardless for we have been chosen by HIM to salvation. Nothing is more important than that.
Some people worship their physical body as an idol, doing all manner of things thinking to preserve their bodies. But these bodies are corruptible and will not be preserved and they will not leave this earth with our spirit. Our focus should be on the soul, not the fleshly body for it will deteriorate regardless of anything man can do and it is only temporary.
So correct your thinking if needed and base your thinking on a godly perspective.
I Cor. 15 ... 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (In I Cor. 15 Paul talks about the new body given to the believer when he leaves this earth.)
If your physical condition, your physical body, depresses you and pulls you down, you need to adjust your attitude by scripture which shows us the truth about the temporary situation of the physical body and through prayer.
We see by the Bible, Luke was a medical doctor in the church ... Col. 4:14 ... 14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. Certainly men such as Luke were there to try to ease the suffering of those who had medical problems in the church.
Many physical problems and even many deaths happen because people who say they are Christian misuse scripture, eating and drinking the word of God incorrectly.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep (die) ... I Cor. 11
Another reason for the destruction of the flesh in the church was sin. We see this in I Cor. 5 ... Paul says ... 1It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. 2And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, 4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

What Paul was telling us in Romans 8 concerning "life" ... Life will not be able to separate us from the love of God.
Take that problem to God in prayer. Overcome through God. Live victoriously on this earth through God daily, second by second. Take care of the problems of the day by laying them out before God in prayer.
A few days ago, I was going to pick up food. I heard something unusual with my car. I stopped and looked. The back tire was flat. I turned around and made it back to my house. Then what? Do I fret and feel, "Poor me" ... NO. Not for a second. This is just a part of life. I prayed, immediately, asking God to help me, asking God to show me how to get someone out to change the tire. I had no idea what to do and it was a Sunday and everything was closed. Monday morning, I called my mechanic and he said what I needed was a "mobile" tire service. The minute he said "mobile" I knew I had the answer to the problem. I got on internet and found mobile tire service and the man was out to my house within the hour and changed the flat tire to the spare tire. I drove to a tire place and bought a set of new tires. (My tires were 10 years old ... my car is 20 years old.)
The computer breaks down ... the plumbing has a problem ... one light will not come on ... such is life.
Things happen we do not expect. We take care of those things as they happen. But we do this by praying first ...hopefully ...
But to sit and fret over your problem and let it get you down would be very foolish if you belong to God.
We must not be overcome by life ... In life (as in death), we who belong to God are connected to God. Life does not separate us from the love of God.
Overcome through prayer ... and then by doing that which is shown you by God.
Simple things ... but critical for us in this life.
We harm ourselves greatly when we allow devils to trouble us over this life. We do such harm to ourselves when we fail to overcome and when we allow devils to move in and depress us and weight us down. We have access to God. We must use that access continually in life. We must overcome through God in all things pertaining to this life.
==========
A month ago, I went to doctor. They handed me a paper to fill out. At the end of the medical questions, there were several questions about depression and a check list ... 5 items were on that list and we were supposed to check one item. They ranged from: severe depression to occasional depression.
I did not check any of these five items.
(These medical people assume you must have some depression so they don't even have a category for "never depressed" on their survey.)
I wrote to the side of their depression questions: Never depressed (this is true) ... When problem comes, I turn to God in prayer and HE helps me ...
(Several days after this I asked Pam Padgett if she is ever depressed. She said she is not ... then she added, "but I have to work at it by turning to God" ... that is exactly what each of us must do if we are to overcome in life.)
We are wrong when we allow this life to overcome us and we do harm needlessly to ourselves (and often to others) when we fail to take the problem to God in prayer.
Romans 8

Dealing with what God leads us to do today
Pam Padgett ... teacher
About a week ago an error message started appearing on my tv screen when I selected a couple of the channels I sometimes watch, including Smithsonian. The error message sounded like it was a problem at the cable company and for a couple days I took no action, thinking the cable company was probably aware of the problem, and there were shows on other channels that interested me.
On Sunday evening a show I was interested in seeing was scheduled on Smithsonian, but I still got the error message earlier in the day. I called the cable company to report the problem and gave them the error message that displayed. The woman said she needed to send the problem to their technical team and it should be resolved within 72 hours. But by Tuesday evening the problem was still happening, and I had come across even more channels getting this error message.
I was very tired that evening and didn't want to deal with the cable company until the next day. In the past when I've called the cable company they want me to do various things, like check all the connections which are hard to reach, and I didn't want to go through those steps that evening.
But I started talking with God about this and my heart was changed, wanting to deal with this that night and not put it off. The concept of dealing with what is before me "today" was strongly in my heart regarding this matter.
I called the cable company that evening. Surprisingly, the man I spoke with did not ask me to do anything. He said he would run tests from where he was and try to resolve the problem. When nothing he did worked, he scheduled one of their technicians to come to my house the following day to resolve the problem.
That morning I was so glad to have been led to call the cable company the previous night and already have this appointment set.
The technician came to my house and diagnosed that the problem is at their facility and said it was being worked on.
Although the tv problem was not resolved while he was here, there was an interesting benefit in the technician come to my house yesterday ... my telephone, internet, and tv are all through the cable company. Last winter there were problems with each of these and the cable company had come and laid a new line between my house and their main box. Everything worked well after they did this.
But recently when I've been talking on the telephone, the phone sometimes would cut in and out. I thought maybe there was something wrong with my telephone handsets or base unit, but the problem was intermittent and it was hard to clearly nail down the problem.
Before the technician left yesterday he told me that he had checked all the connections coming into my house. He said when the new line was laid last winter, the connections had not been full crimped and they had started to fray. He said he had cleaned up the frayed ends and secured the connections. As he told me this, I remembered the phone trouble I've been having and asked if this might be the cause of that. He said that was very likely.
After he left Joan and I were talking on the telephone and I noticed that there was no cutting in and out.
This, again, made me very happy to have been led to deal with what was before me Tuesday night by calling the cable company.
Just as a shepherd leading his sheep, God leads us to do each day what is needed that day. HE knows all things, including what is best in the situation, what lies ahead, and how to lead us. We just need to do what we are led by God to do today.

Acts 11 ... Reading through the Bible
1And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the
Gentiles had also received the word of God.
2And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 3Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
4But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, 5I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me: 6Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
7And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. 8But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
10And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
11And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. 12And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting.
Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: 13And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. 20And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
22Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. 23Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. 24For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
25Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
27And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 28And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.
29Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: 30Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

Standing on the Word of God series: Example 14
From Sandy Kern
At the end of last year my doctor wanted me to have some heart tests because my heart was beating so fast. I was very scared I might have to have open heart surgery.
I was given two scriptures Isaiah 43:1-3 Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 2When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:
Psalm 118:17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
My tests were completed early this year and they all came back negative.

Please share with us the examples you have where you stood on a scripture to fight fear or persecution so we can print your example on the blog to encourage others.
