Work of a prophet

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

If a person comes to you, saying, "I am called by God and set in the body of Christ as a prophet," you should expect certain things from the anointing God gives that ministry of a prophet.

We know so many things from the Bible about prophets and the work they do for God in the body of Christ... Old and New Testaments.

John the Baptist, a prophet of God, came in the power and spirit of Elijah.  Yet John didn't look at all like Elijah for John did no miracles.  So many of the people didn't recognize John the Baptist in the calling given him by God.

The Bible says of John the Baptist:

Matthew 3:1-3   In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.

Jesus said of John the Baptist:

Matthew 11:7-10     And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?  But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Prophets prepare the people for the coming of Jesus.

In the Old Covenant, John the Baptist came preparing the people for the first coming of Jesus.

In the NT church, prophets prepare the people for the second coming of Jesus.

It is important to handle the messages brought by the prophets correctly for God knows what you need and certainly God knows you are reading this blog today.  Joan Boney

To the church:

The reason the religious people always try to kill the prophet is this:

The problem is, the religious people, being religious, always think they are doing right.  They resent the prophet who is sent to them by God, who tells them something they are doing is not right.

Often they are puffed up, "We are of God.  Who does he think he is to tell us such things?  We've been in the church all these years."

But the work of the prophet is to turn them back to God,  which they often resist and they want to "kill" the prophet who is trying to turn them to the way of God.

Concerning John the Baptist and his calling.

Luke 1:16  And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

This is exactly what NT prophets do today as we bring godly corrections to the individuals in the church.

Luke 1:17    And he (John the Baptist) shall go before HIM (Jesus) in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

It is the role of today's NT prophet to try to make the church people ready for the second coming of Jesus.

I've found most of these church people try to resist that which I tell them.

The really godly people (who are very few) will say with excitement, "That's right!" (and they rejoice in their hearts to hear the truth)… but most are just puffed up in their own religious pride.

And they fight the words of the prophet in their hearts.

Nevertheless we speak to them!

Jesus said:

Matthew 23:33-35    Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth,

***

37-39    O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

For I say unto you, Ye shall not see ME henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

John the Baptist speaking to the religious people...

Luke 3:7  Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance,

and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

(In their hearts they were boasting that "they" are children of God ... "How dare John to speak this way to them?")

7 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

***

It is always the same.  They think they are the people of God and they boast in their hearts never dreaming that they are sinning.  (These are the church people.)

Years ago, a pastor told me this story about a man in their church group.

Pastor said, "We think he is a prophet ... Once I was doing something wrong and the whole church knew I was doing this.  Some talked with me.  But this man came in and pointed his finger directly at me and told me of the wrong I was doing and he told me to quit doing that wrong and straighten up.  It went right through me."

Pastor said he was affected immediately!

This is certainly what prophets do in the church.

We have many examples of this in both Old and New Testaments.

In the NT church today, more times than not, the wrong doers want to kill the prophet by showing the prophet to be wrong and in presenting himself that he is not doing any wrong, and he often thinks the prophet just misunderstood him.

And he smirks in his heart ... ("See... I'm  even better than the prophet!") ...  and in his heart he hates the prophet.

And because of all this, the prophet wants to stop delivering the messages of God.

If the prophet stops delivering messages, then the wrong doer has succeeded in killing that prophet.

Jeremiah 1:16-19    (God speaking to Jeremiah concerning the nation of Israel)   And I will utter MY judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken ME, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

(Sometimes their "god" is themselves in their religious pride as they do their own works in the church.)

God says to the prophet:

18 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.

***

Jeremiah 2:7-9   God says to the children of Israel:

And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that handle the law knew ME not: the pastors also transgressed against ME, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the Lord, and with your children's children will I plead.

Can't we see this in today's churches and in today's ministers, as they change portions of scripture and approve various sins in the congregation explaining them away?  Growing bigger and bigger, basking in their own greatness while withholding correction from themselves and the church.

Jeremiah 2:13   God says:  For MY people have committed two evils; they have forsaken ME the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water

(broken cisterns: works of their own mind ... can hold no water for it has no water and that minister can not hold the water even if it is given to him for he is broken and will not be corrected.)

And we see the following in the religious individuals in the church groups:

They have often been in church their entire lives and consider themselves to be religious.  They often have no idea they are doing anything wrong since they live "moral" lives, no adultery, no fornication, ... but often they do have sins in other ways.

* One woman told me of how lonely she became at night.  I pointed out to her Philippians 4:6 and told her if she would do this, God would help her when she was lonely.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

All she had to do each time the loneliness came upon her was to turn to God in prayer and ask HIM to help her.

There is no indication that she did this after I told her.  I know there is much religious pride in this woman.  I'm sure she considers herself to be one of the leaders in that church.  She has attended that type of church group all her life and she is 96-years-old now, but doesn't even practice the basic fundamentals of calling on God in time of need.  Perhaps she thinks she can handle it herself.  Many in churches do think that.  They become their own god through their religious practices.

Matthew 18:3    Jesus says:  Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Religious pride is deadly.

The prophet of God will try to turn you.

Ezekiel 2:1-6    God says to the prophet:

And HE said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

And the spirit entered into me when HE spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard HIM that spake unto me.

And HE said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against ME: they and their fathers have transgressed against ME, even unto this very day.
For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God.

(impudent:  marked by contemptuous or cocky boldness; insolent; presumptuous; often thinking they know because they have years of experience; not showing respect toward those appointed by God, thinking themselves to be wise and to already know all; offensively bold or disrespectful)

***

One thing God has had me to do is to announce to the church the ministry offices by which I am writing or speaking, apostle/prophet.

If there is no respect for me, certainly every person calling himself a Christian should have a strong respect for the ministry, not wanting to do harm to that ministry.

(But I have found many church people have no respect for the ministry and they proceed to do harm against the ministry through their many personal defenses of themselves, trying to show the minister to be wrong.)

Ezekiel 2:5
God says:  And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

6 And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

***

Prophets are sent to the church ... to the religious people.

The religious people often have great pride for they have done these "religious" things all these past years.

Certainly they have learned all these things by now!  they will tell you.
