I Corinthians 10
13 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
admonition: authoritative counsel or warning;
"An admonition is advice with a hint of scolding, a warning not to do something. When you're cautioned or warned about some mistake you might be about to make, or some looming danger, you're receiving an "admonition."
The strength and tone of an admonitiion determine whether it's a gentle, polite suggestion or more of a stern warning.

The Old Testament strongly shows us the heart of God, what God thinks. The various examples strongly warn us.
God used HIS appointed prophets to judge Israel. God led the prophet in the right way for the people to go.
I Samuel 7
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
14 And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.
15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
16 And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.
17 He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.
18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.
19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.
22 And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

They did not consider the will of God but only their own will and reasoned by their own thinking.
They would pay for this and their households would suffer on this earth.
This is also a warning for us today.
So the apostle Paul says to us:
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

They desired to copy the world.
Had they chosen God's way, HE would have put them above those of this world.
Deuteronomy 28
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
God would have set them above and not below. But they chose to copy the world, rejecting the way of God, being like others in the world.
God would have made them the head and not the tail. And no man would rule over them. If only they had chosen to make God their god. They could have had it all.
If we choose God and HIS ways and do HIS word, we will have all that really matters.
But they chose the way of man and the wisdom of this world.
God is far above this world.
And those who seek the will of God and choose the Word of God will never fail.
Joshua 1:8 God says: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Psalm 1
2 But HIS delight is in the law of the LORD; and in HIS law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
