Comments by Joan Boney:
To me, the fear of the Lord, is having a very deep awe and respect for that which God says. When we feel that way, we know it is critical to do that which God says to do for if we go any other way we bring destruction upon ourselves.
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do HIS commandments: HIS praise endureth for ever.
As a new Christian in 1975, I spent a great deal of time in both Psalms and Proverbs, which show us a view of a just God who renders true judgment.
The apostle Paul said,
II Corinthians 5:9-11
9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of HIM.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;

In the New Testament church groups, I have often found a lacking concerning the fear of God. I believe much of my fear of God comes from the time spent in Psalms and Proverbs.
If we go in the way of God, blessings from God come upon us. And all who come across our path are blessed because of us.
But if we go in the way of fleshly men, we penalize ourselves and bring cursing's upon us.
Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
When we do the scriptures, we choose life over death.
Jesus says:
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
In connection with the above scripture, God said to me: "Many want freedom to sin but you want freedom from sin."
By doing the scriptures, we have freedom from sin.
