* When the trumpet of God sounds.

Before God spoke to the people in the days of Moses, a great trumpet of God sounded long from the mountain.

A trumpet is an attention getting instrument.

We have several references to the trump of God.

Exodus 19

16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

I Thessalonians 4

13  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep (dead), that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede) them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Matthew 24

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31And HE shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Can you imaging hearing a very loud trumpet all of a sudden and it kept sounding and even louder and louder?

Surely we would stop everything and look.

That is the way I feel when God brings a word to my attention.  It is often like a trumpet, causing me to stop in my tracks and look.

And notice that Jesus sends his angels to gather "HIS elect".

There is an old time hymn:  When the trumpet of the Lord will sound and time will be no more ...

When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there!
