* God destroys Sodom but saves Abraham's nephew, Lot.

Genesis 12

4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

Genesis 13

1  And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

Lot was troubled in Sodom because of the wickedness of the men of Sodom.

II Peter 2

7 (God)  delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

If we choose to put ourselves in places where the wicked dwell, they will vex our "righteous souls" with their conversations and their deeds.

But God knows how to deliver us from the wicked.

God gave me a dream to get me to leave Word of Faith church so I would not be hurt by the words coming from the speaker.

Poison Gas Dream: (1979)

A man was speaking to a room filled with people.  I went in and sat down and began to listen to this speaker.

A second man rushed in and said, "Stop ... wait ... can't you see ... it's too late ... it's already begun."  Then he disappeared and the first man continued speaking to the people.

No one seemed interested in the message given by the second man.  But I wanted to see what had already begun so I looked out the window.

I was shocked by that which I saw.

There was a tall pole with a yellow civil defense type speaker on top of the pole.  A gas was coming through the speaker.  I knew it was poison and would kill the people and the gas was drifting directly toward us in that room.

The speaker that was set there to warn us was the instrument that was being used to kill us!

I looked at the man who was sitting next to me.  He was staring directly at the man who was speaking and he had a very big smile on his face and seemed to be very attentively listening to the man who was speaking.

But then I saw it.  This man was a corpse.  He was dead though he seemed to be alive.

I looked at the other people in the room and saw they were all dead too.

And as I sat there among them, I began to feel drowsy and I knew the gas coming from the speaker as I sat there with them was going to kill me too.

***

On a Wednesday night in 1982, I was at church at Word of Faith.  I glanced at the man who was sitting next to me and was shocked.  He was the dead man in the poison gas dream.  I looked at the other people in the room and they also seemed to be those people in the poison gas dream.

Immediately, I got up and went into the ladies room and began praying:  "God, I think YOU are showing me to leave this church so I am going to get in my car and drive away.  But if YOU want me to come back, I will turn around and come back."

God did not want me to come back.  After I left God began showing me many doctrine problems at that church group.

God had taught me to hear from HIM by HIS Spirit and to use the scripture which HE showed me ... to meditate on that scripture and to do that instruction and to stand on that scripture.

But the people at the faith movement church were being taught to hunt a scripture to stand on and to claim "that" scripture.

I was hearing from God ... they were taught to be their own god by finding a scripture and claiming that scripture.

God was eliminated as they did this.  And the will of God was not considered in trying to get what they wanted.

Antichrist tries to be god.

II Thessalonians 2:3-4   Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

It is a subtil difference but instead of calling on God in the problem, they try to be their own god by hunting scripture to justify what they want and by claiming that scripture over what they want without depending on the Spirit of God.

Jesus describes this as follows:

John 5

39  (Ye) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of ME.

40 And ye will not come to ME, that ye might have life.

It can even seem like faith in God to hunt a scripture but it is really faith in yourself as you hunt by your own mind.

When we depend on God for help and turn to God with the situation, HE provides for us the help we need, which might be a scripture or it might be a concept.

But if we grab a Bible without turning to God and we try to find what to do by reading the Bible, we are trying to be "as god" while we eliminate God, though we look for the answer in the Bible.

We must turn to God rather than try to be our own god.

Thus we trust in God rather than trusting in ourselves.

God taught me to trust in Him by turning to HIM in prayer.

It was 2 years between the time I had the poison gas dream and the time that I saw the problem at Word of Faith.  I didn't fully realize that they were not turning to God as they searched the scripture to find the answer for the problem.

I said to our Bible teacher, "I didn't realize I was different."

He replied, "Joan ... you were always different.  They speak about faith but you live faith."

Eve wanted to be "as god" knowing good and evil rather than simply trusting in God.  (Gen. 3)

But faith comes after hearing from God by HIS Spirit.  Then we have faith in that which God has told us by HIS Spirit.

We cannot have faith until God speaks.  Then after God speaks to us, we believe in that which HE has said to us.  He might speak a scripture to show us what to do or HE might give us a concept to show us.  Either way, it is God speaking when it is HIS Spirit showing us, for HIS Spirit searches the heart of God to show us the will of God in the matter at hand.

I never read the Bible when I have a problem or am troubled.

I pray, discussing the matter with God.

When God settles me, after I turn to HIM, then I am able to read the Bible again in peace.

For Abraham's sake, God spares Lot when HE destroys Sodom.

Genesis 19

1  And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

(Angels look like regular men.  Angels do not have wings.)

2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:

(Homosexuals lived in every "quarter" of the city of Sodom, and they came out to have sex with the two strangers who were lodged in Lot's house.)

5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.  (have sex with them)

6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,

7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

(Lot knew homosexual acts were "wicked".)

8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.

11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.

14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he (the angel) said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when HE overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

God states HIS view of homosexuals/lesbians in the New Testament Bible:

Romans 1

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
