Choosing the blessings of God:
Deuteronomy 28:1-14 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all HIS commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
New Testament church: Doing the word of God, especially doing the scriptures in the New Testament
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and HE shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
(God will bless us in the place HE has set us.)
The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto Himself, as HE hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in HIS ways.
And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.
And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
I read these scriptures concerning the "blessings" many times during the years I was a new Christian. I believe these scriptures helped me to observe a "fear of the Lord." (respect for the Word God spoke to me.)
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do HIS commandments: HIS praise endureth for ever.

There are many scriptures we can follow and bless ourselves and others by doing this word.
Here is one of those scriptures:
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
* a corrupt communication:
- something dishonest: usually for personal gain. To flatter a person by saying something you do not believe, would be an example of corrupt communication,
- something that is perverted from the truth of God: to excuse sin to make a sinner to think will of himself in his sin would be corrupt communication.
- corrupt communication would be a worldly talk which would provoke the listeners to hatred. Political communications concerning governments of men often do this. Taunting a person who supports another sports team would provoke evil.
* that which is good to the use of edifying:
Edify means: to build in the faith in God
Correction in the way of God is certainly edifying for it has the power to turn a person to God when there is error in that person's way.
* minister grace unto the hearer:
If I say this, will it cause that person to think on God?
So if we set these as our goals and use such when speaking to another person, we will be doing Ephesians 4:29 which bears fruit to God.
This is very different from the worldly saying: "If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all." For the people who go by this often end up being a friend to the evil by allowing the evil to surface without rebuke from the Word of God, and they often make themselves of great reputation because they please other people and people think them to be great.
Instead we are going to bring edification to build that other person in godliness.
Another scripture which bears fruit to do, if we do it, is as follows:
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Paul said: I Corinthians 2:1-5 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

To make yourself of no reputation does not mean to go about in false humility but in modesty and truth of God.
* Women often try to make themselves of reputation by their dress and make up, their physical appearance. Paul wanted godly women to dress modestly, not trying to draw attention to themselves. (Titus 2)
* People at work try to exalt themselves and show "their own wisdom" to gain position over others. They try to be clever, drawing people to themselves.
There are many scriptures for us to do.
When a scripture is called to your attention, that is the time to focus on that scripture, thinking about it's application, and doing that scripture in a godly way, bringing blessings on yourself and on others.

The curses:
Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
The Lord shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken ME.
The Lord shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it. The Lord shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
The Lord shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
The Lord shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
(There are many other curses listed in Deuteronomy 28.)

I know of a man who gloried in his own wisdom. He frequently spoke of how brilliant he had been in dealing with opponents. This man acquired the disease Alzheimer's in his 70's and became a fool.
Herod gloried in his own wisdom and the following was the result:
Acts 12:21-23 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
