Numbers 25:1-3 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

There is "an anger of God".
Paul said:
II Corinthians 5:10-11 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;
The doctrine that I have heard in various churches today is not like the doctrine that I read in the above scripture nor like the examples that I see in the Old Testament where God dealt with sinners.
I believe many will be shocked at that which they see at the judgment seat of Christ.

Numbers 25:4-5 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.
And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand. (24,000)
The plague had been brought by God upon the children of Israel because of the sin and 24,000 died of the plague before Phinehas rendered judgment which stayed the plague.
How can we think God looks away from sin?
In the New Testament Bible, there is a difference between sins before the individual is enlightened, before he knows that which he is doing is sin ... and after he sees the issue as sin.
It is a very serious matter to continue in sin after you know it to be sin in the sight of God.
Such things as sex before marriage, fornication, and adultery, sex with someone other than marriage partner, homosexual lives, are very serious deeds and bear consequences.
At the judgment seat of Christ, we receive for that which we have done "whether it is good or bad."
If we commit sins before we know such to be sins, the blood of Jesus pays for those sins. But to continue in those sins after we have the knowledge of the sin is serious because there is no more sacrifice for that sin.
For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

I've heard people in churches say, "Don't worry ... those sins are under the blood of Jesus."
I believe that is correct if they repent after they are enlightened to that sin. But the sacrifice of Jesus is paid once, and after that the judgment.
There is no more sacrifice for sin after the person has been forgiven that sin and returns to sin again. You would have to "crucify Jesus afresh" if you were to be cleared again from that sin.
Therefore the homosexual or lesbian who sees what he is doing is a sin, repents of that sin and is forgiven by God and God will not remember that sin again.
But if he returns to homosexual acts, Peter says it would have been better for him not to have known the way of life than to turn after he has been redeemed.
But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
And so is true of other sins.

I Corinthians 6:9-10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Please examine yourself to be sure you are not doing the above sins.

Hebrews 10:26-31 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
For we know HIM that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto ME, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge HIS people.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

So a homosexual becomes enlightened to the truth of God concerning homosexual acts.
Romans 1:26-27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
The homosexual sees these acts are sin according to God. So he repents, turns from that sin.
The fornicators, adulterers, drunkards, idolaters, railers and such also see their actions as sins and they turn from these sins and do these sins no more.
They are then cleansed by the blood of Jesus and God will not remember their sins. Hebrews 8 & 10
But no one can return to sins after being enlightened to know these are sins, and be guiltless.
This is what the New Testament Bible shows us.

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned MY wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for MY sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
The atonement came through judgment and by blood, for Phinehas drove the spear through the belly of the two sinners and stopped the sin.
And God honored Phinehas for what he did. God is just and righteous and cannot abide sin. The God of the Bible, the real God, is far from the image of God today in the minds of most church goers.
We see the real God by the Bible.
And if you doubt, just look at that which God will bring in HIS wrath at the end of this world.
See Revelation 8-16.

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Vex the Midianites, and smite them: For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian. Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.
(12,000 men including the 1/2 tribes of Ephraim and Manassas.)
And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
Remember Balaam? He was at Midian at the time of this judgment and Balaam was also slain by the sword. Balaam put himself among the evil persons and he was slain with those evil persons. And we see Balaam was responsible, for his counsel, caused the women of Midian to commit trespass against God. Numbers 31:16
And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.
And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.
And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
16 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day. And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood.
And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses;
Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead, Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: Nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

This is so different from the rules of war today where they try to protect the civilian population.
Today both Moses and God would be tried for war crimes.
But the wisdom of God is to slay the women who have known man and the male children.
God does not have to be justified in HIS position, but I can imagine how vicious those male children will become when they grow up, and also how those women caused sin in the congregation with the idol worship.

Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation: And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:
And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep: Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the Lord.
And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
The spoil taken from the Midianites:
* 675,000 sheep
* 72,000 beef
* 61,000 donkeys
* 32,000 women who had not known man
Numbers 31:54 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.
