When we pray for wisdom and hear from God and do something, we know it was God showing us to do this thing. That really helps us fight pride in us for how can we take pride for what we did when we know we asked God what to do and God showed us what to do. It wasn't our idea.
James 1:5 ... If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
But if we jump out there and do something without prayer, we can really puff up when people compliment us on that which we did ... and what we did may backfire at some point and the pride could turn into shame.
Make it a goal to learn to pray for wisdom from God. Spare yourself!
