I Jn. 4 ... 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent HIS only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through HIM.
We once lived through our flesh ... Gal. 5 ... 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
We carried grudges when someone offended us. We tried to outdo others and exalt ourselves. We allowed our flesh to rule constantly, wanting things of the flesh, lusting after things of this world. Despising others. Appeasing our flesh in every way. Making our flesh happy. Making our flesh "feel good". Catering to our flesh.
But after God revealed HIMSELF to us we were changed. And day by day those things we once loved and followed after diminished and we learned to live through HIM, through the Word. And as long as we are on this earth we continue to recreate ourselves into the image of Jesus as we do various scriptures, uprooting our old ways of the flesh.
We are dead with HIM and we do live through HIM.
