The flesh will try to lead us ... Devils will try to lead us ... Both take us to destructions.
The Holy Spirit of God is the truth and will only lead us in the way of God.
Consider the last scripture (or concept) brought to your attention by the Spirit of God.
Look at that scripture. Do those instructions given in that scripture. Keep that scripture before you day and night and be sure to do that scripture for that is a special message from God to you.
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
First, we must hear from God.
We read the New Testament Bible and when a scripture stands out to us, we stop and focus on that scripture for that is God trying to communicate with us.
Or if you are reminded of a scripture, stop and focus on that scripture for it is the Holy Spirit bringing that scripture to your mind and it contains a message from God to you.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
First we hear from God by HIS Spirit, and then we focus on that which God is showing us.
Then we act on the instruction given in that scripture, doing the word from God.
And as we do that scripture, we are conformed to the image of Christ, The Word, which we are following.
We do that scripture for a season, then another scripture is shown to us and we focus on that scripture and think on that scripture until we can do that scripture, thus following the Spirit of God.
We do this our entire life that we spend on this present earth, walking in the way of God by HIS Spirit!
