The apostle Paul instructs:
I Timothy 6:20-21 ... O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane (secular) and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
* avoid profane (secular) and vain babblings:
A Catholic woman used to speak all forms of worldly sayings to me.
Each time I would reply to her, "That is not in the Bible. I want to build my house on that word that is from God."
She was building her house on many secular sayings of man.
* avoid opposition of science:
So many people today seem to trust in "science".
From time to time, I will see on TV, the listing of programs telling "how the world ends".
We, who know Bible, know how the world ends:
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to HIS promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of HIM in peace, without spot, and blameless.
And often I will see them quote percentages with their statements, or say things like 94% of the time ... and I always wonder what if you get to only 93%, then it is not effective?
I find these numbers are supposed to mean something and I always wonder, "What if the number falls a little short?"
(I really don't believe their numbers.)
