* God calls Moses up to the mountain and gives him instructions for the OT church

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

When the children of Israel came to the desert of Sinai, and had camped in the wilderness, before the mountain, God called Moses, saying:

Exodus 19:3-6
Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself.

Now therefore, if ye will obey MY voice indeed, and keep MY covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto ME above all people: for all the earth is Mine:   And ye shall be unto ME a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

***

We, of the New Testament church, have a very similar statement made by the apostle Peter for the church.

I Peter 2:1-3    Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

spiritual sacrifices:  we offer ourselves to serve God in spirit and in truth.

In the Old Testament they sacrificed the blood of bulls and goats as appeasement for sin.  But such could never take away sins.  For this Jesus offered Himself to take away our sins, once for all, one offering for all.  Now we offer ourselves as living sacrifices.

Romans 12:1-2    I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind (to the word of God), that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I Peter 2:4-10   Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on HIM shall not be confounded.

Unto you therefore which believe HE (Jesus/The Word) is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of HIM who hath called you out of darkness into HIS marvellous light;   Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Exodus 19:7-8   And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him.

And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do.

And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.

Exodus 19:10-13 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, And be ready against the third day: for the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death: There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

A trumpet will sound on the mountain calling them to God.

Exodus 19:16-19   And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

One thing greatly missing in the New Testament churches today is a fear of the Lord.

People today have created a god in their own image, in their own fleshly thinking.  Their "god" they have created for themselves today is sort of like a good natured Santa Clause, or a grandfather image, where they get everything they lust after through God ... It is an image far from the image of God as presented in the Bible.

I hear the people today say:  "Oh my God will never do that!"  And I know they have no real idea what the God shown to us in the Bible does.

We see in these example from the Old Testament, that the people were in fear when the mountain was covered with a thick cloud and there were "thunders and lightnings" ... and what about that very loud trumpet that sounded upon the mountain ... "exceeding loud" ...

***

17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder,

Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

20 ... and the Lord called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

Exodus 19:21-25   And the Lord said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the Lord to gaze, and many of them perish.  And let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them.

And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

And the Lord said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the Lord, lest HE break forth upon them.

So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

In the New Testament church today, each of us have been given by God, The Holy Spirit, who lives in us.  This is the Spirit of Jesus who knows the thinking of God on the matters at hand.  Therefore we can know the will of God by HIS Spirit who lives in us and guides us into all truth and teaches us all things.  John 14:26 & John 16:13

We go directly to God today through Jesus Christ and HIS shed blood.  Hebrews 1

But in the Old Testament it was not that way, for not all had the Spirit of God, and there was no shed blood of Jesus to pay for their sins at that time. God spoke to the people then by Moses and by the prophets.

We have a much better covenant today!

Exodus 20:1-21   And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Thou shalt have no other gods before ME.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate ME;  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love ME, and keep MY commandments.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh HIS name in vain.

"HIS name" is The Word.  If we take The Word is vain, we eat and drink to our own damnation.  I Corinthians 11:28-31    But let a man examine himself (by the Word of God), and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh (the Word of God) unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.   For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep (die).   For if we would judge ourselves (by the Word of God), we should not be judged.

Exodus 20:8-17     Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:  For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The Old Testament sabbath and the New Testament sabbath are different.  In the OT, the sabbath was the 7th day of the week.  They couldn't work at all.  They had to prepare their food the day before.  They rested in their tents on the sabbath.  (no shopping and none of those activities we are free to do in the NT)

There is a sabbath for the  New Testament church but it is not a day of the week.  Rather it is a way of life, ceasing from our own works daily, depending on God to show us what to do throughout each day.

Hebrews 4:1-11    Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as HE said, As I have sworn in MY wrath, if they shall enter into MY rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For HE spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all HIS works.

And in this place again, If they shall enter into MY rest.

Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear HIS voice, harden not your hearts.

For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

For he that is entered into HIS rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from HIS.

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

We labor to believe that Word given to us by the Holy Spirit and we act on That Word to stop our own works.  It is a daily rest for us.  We rest in the Word of God continually.

***

Exodus 10:12-17    Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

***

Exodus 20:18-21   And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that HIS fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.

And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

***

And God spoke to Moses and gave Moses more instructions concerning the building of the tabernacle and sacrifices for sins and rules for the Old Testament church, which were needful for them since Jesus had not yet paid for their sins with HIS own blood, as in the New Covenant church.
