Comments by Barbara Preston:
Reading this scripture Beth shared reminded me of something that happened earlier this week.

A few days ago I answered the door (which I rarely do) and there were two people standing there who wanted to persuade me to come to their church.

But what the man talking said to me about the Bible was untrue.  And what I said he did not believe.

There was no evidence of the Holy Spirit in him. Just his flesh trying to “teach” the Bible. I cut short the encounter.

Many years ago when I was a fairly new Christian, I answered the door one day and got into a discussion with two young men about things of God.  It went on for a while as we each tried to persuade the other.

I was still fairly naive and thought I could persuade them to see the truth of what I had been taught. After they left I turned to God in frustration asking HIM why they could not see the truth and I could.

I heard … Matthew 13:11 He (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Having the Holy Spirit makes all the difference. Spiritual discernment comes by having that Spirit of Truth dwelling inside of you.

John 16:13 (Jesus said) Howbeit when He the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.
