* David moves the ark of God.

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

II Samuel 6:1-8  Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the Lord of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.

And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.

And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.

And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.

The ark of God was left for 3 months in the house of Obededom the Gittite.

And the LORD blessed the house of Obededom, and all that he had.  (I Chronicles 13:14)

***

Why did God kill Uzzah? All he did was try to steady the ark when the cart slipped. Wasn't that a "good" thing he did?

This is explained for us in the Book of First Chronicles.

David build himself a house and he also prepared a place to put the ark of God.

So David wanted to go again to bring the ark of God.

But this time, David was very careful in the way the ark of God was to be moved.

I Chronicles 15

Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the Lord chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto HIM for ever.

None but the Levites were appointed for this work.

In the New Testament churches today, none but those ordained by God as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers are appointed for the ministry of Christ.

There are gifts of the Holy Spirit and many are given these gifts but the ministry offices for the church are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

Ephesians 4:8;11-12  When HE (Jesus) ascended up on high, HE led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men ... And HE (Jesus) gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

David fetches the ark of God the second time to move the ark to Jerusalem.

I Chronicles 15

3 And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the Lord unto his place, which he had prepared for it.

4 And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites:

12 And (David) said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.

13 For because ye did it not at the first, the Lord our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought HIM not after the due order.

(The wrong people, those not appointed by God, moved the ark.)

14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.

15 And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the Lord.

The first time they tried to move the ark of God, they put the ark on a cart to move it with oxen.  This is not the way prescribed by God to do this.  God ordained that the tribe of Levi would handle the sacred things and that the ark would be moved upon the shoulders of appointed men of Levi with the staves set for moving the ark.

Uzzah was not appointed to handle the ark and when he tried to do a "good" thing in his own thinking, God struck him dead.

We cannot do the works of God unless God authors that work by His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.

Jesus says:

Matthew 7

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Only those works authored by God are good works. Therefore no man can do a work of his own thinking. It must be God leading him to do that work for it to be good. Otherwise it is a work of iniquity though it may seem good to other men. Jesus will turn away all who do works of their own ideas.

Jeroboam was one of the most wicked of all the kings of Israel. One thing he did that was so evil was to make priest of the vilest sorts of men. Therefore the Levites who were appointed as priests by the Lord, were prohibited from doing the work of the Lord by Jeroboam.

The Levites had to leave the countries of Israel and move to Judah to continue doing the work of God.

Today many ministers in New Testament churches were not ordained by God for the work of the ministry, though they were ordained by men at seminaries and at colleges.

No one can do the ministry of God unless he is called by God for this work and ordained by God.

All others are antichrist working in the churches.

But this apostasy in the NT church had to happen before Jesus returns for the church, according to the apostle Paul.

II Thessalonians 2:3   Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (of the Lord) shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Churches would "fall away" from portions of scripture.  When the scriptures were removed this allowed the "man of sin" (antichrist) to move into the churches.  That is what we are seeing today in the many churches where scriptures have been removed and another doctrine set up and where idols are added to the churches for them to believe in.  This is the apostasy of the end times.

II Samuel 6:16-23    And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter  (David's wife) looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

(She considered David's actions to be unworthy of the king of Israel and in her eyes, David was shaming himself in front of all.)

And they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.

And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.   And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

God brought a penalty to Michal for her despising of king David as he rejoiced before God.
