Jeremiah 40
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.
2 And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said:because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you. 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee:but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear:behold, all the land is before thee:whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.
(The people who were supposed to be from God wanted to kill Jeremiah and they put him in prison but the Babylonian rulers freed Jeremiah to go where he chose.)
5 Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people:or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go.
So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.
6 Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.
(These people of the land were the poor people of Jerusalem who had nothing who were left in the land by the Babylonians to tend the land.)
7 Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon; 8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men. 9 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans:dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you. 10 As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us:but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
11 Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan; 12 Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.
13 Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, 14 And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not. 15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it:wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?
16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing:for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

1 Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.
2 Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
3 Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
4 And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it, 5 That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the Lord.
6 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went:and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. 7 And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him. 8 But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not:for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slew them not among their brethren.
9 Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel:and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain.
10 Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam:and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.
11 But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done, 12 Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.
13 Now it came to pass, that when all the people which were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad. 14 So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
15 But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites. 16 Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:17 And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt, 18 Because of the Chaldeans:for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.

Following God By His Spirit: Chapter 7 / Book available at Amazon.com

The Holy Spirit speaks to us in the form of a thought ... but so do other spirits!
I Jn. 4:1 ... Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.
So we must present ideas to God in prayer and allow HIM to establish our thinking in the various issues. I try the ideas brought to my mind by turning to God in prayer and by waiting on God to persuade me.
God is able to communicate with us and to confirm the direction we are to take on this earth in a way which we can understand.
There is another way to try the spirits which I have done many times.
I Jn. 4 ...2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
I have often tried the spirit by simply asking that spirit "Do you confess Jesus Christ is come in the flesh" ... and I will hear either yes or no from that spirit in form of thought.
In the past years, I have so many examples of individuals who started out to do a work they thought was of God only to find they were unable to do that work. Often they came to me thinking I could help them do the work. What I saw is this: The work was not of God. They never believed me and they kept trying to do the work but so far as I know none of them were ever able to do the work.
One woman who came to me said she was sure God wanted her to start a home Bible class. She bought a house in the neighborhood she could afford and moved in. But she was so afraid of the neighbors she couldn't start the class. Also she said she thought God wanted her to write a book. She put some things on paper but no one would consider publishing it. She didn't even have enough money to have the pages copied to submit them to publisher and she had no real market for the book. All this is nonsense.
At the church I once attended, a young couple said God was sending them to Israel to preach the gospel. He quit his secular job. They set out for Israel. In a week, they had returned to church. They said it was impossible in Israel and they did not speak the language. Again this is nonsense and terribly harmful.
These are examples of following the wrong spirit.
Each time God has shown me to do something, the way to do the work has also been shown me.
In approximately 1980, what I believe to have been an angel of the Lord spoke to me in the night while I was sleeping. It was a voice like a trumpet and was so loud I jumped out of bed immediately.
The words spoken were: "Hartford, Seattle, KWJS" ... It seemed clear to me that KWJS would be call letters to either radio or TV station. (It turned out to be radio station.)
I said to God, "Are you telling me to go on radio. I wouldn't know how to do this. I'm a writer not a speaker."
Immediately the gentle thought came, "Call the radio station manager." (Holy Spirit bringing way from God)
First thing that morning I called and spoke with the station manager and he told me to make an audition tape 29 1/2 minutes long and send it to him and if I fit their broadcast format he would offer me a contract. (That same morning I made an audition recording and mailed it that same day to the radio station.)
I asked the radio station manager how much it costs to be on his station, and he said it was $800 per month for 5 day week/30 min broadcast. I prayed, asking God how I should pay for it. The thought came to write the people I knew and tell them what happened. At the time, I knew fewer than 80 people. But I wrote telling what happened. I did not ask for money. I just told them what happened. I had the letter copied and mailed it. Within 24 hrs. more than enough money had arrived to pay for the first month of broadcasts. And I was on the air on radio within a week.
See how important the working of the Holy Spirit is when we believe God has shown us to do something. We do not know the will of God except by the revealing of the Holy Spirit.
There is a man who came to me thinking I might be able to help him. He had written a book and couldn’t get it published. Someone at his church group prophesied over him that he would be quitting his profession in secular world to devote full attention to his book and to lectures. I was horrified. His wife was very disturbed because she felt he had damaged his reputation with his secular employers by telling them about this book which had to do with US Constitution and Bible. I did what I could to turn him from this "folly". But I don't think he turned.
Beware of an angel of light ... seems like God but brings harm ... Paul speaks of this as follows: For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. II Cor. 11
It can seem like goodness and light only to be destruction. And often there is a terrible thing. To quit a disastrous work seems like a lack of faith. But in reality the work itself was not authored by God. This happens a lot.
Jesus said …
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Mt. 7:21-23)
Everything must be proven by prayer or by directly trying the spirit that brought the thought.
Also consider the following concerning that wisdom which is from God ...
James 3:17 ... But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
And Jesus explained: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Mt. 11
If the plan is very hard to do and will bring great hardship upon you and your family you have likely heard from the wrong spirit. Be very careful about "good" works. Pray. Wait on God to confirm the direction.
Prov. 3 ... In all thy ways acknowledge him (pray), and HE shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes.
Prov. 16:25 ... There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
So many ministers contact me asking me to give them money to help pay for their works. But there is no such example in the Bible of a minister asking another minister to give him money … Nor is there any example in Bible of a minister asking a church group to give him money. And I know many are led into good works by other spirits and by ideas of man.
My experience with God for the past 30+ years is when God authors a work HE also provides a way to do the work without begging for money from other ministers or from other people.
David said: I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Psa. 37:25

Acts 11 ... Reading through the Bible
2And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 3Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
4But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, 5I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me: 6Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
7And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. 8But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
10And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
11And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. 12And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting.
Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: 13And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. 20And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
22Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. 23Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. 24For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
25Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
27And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 28And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.
29Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: 30Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
I Corinthians 2:14-16

I Cor. 2 ... 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:for they are foolishness unto him:neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
We who are of God are taught by God.
God has given us the Holy Spirit so that we can know "the mind of God", the will of God concerning us.
We have the instruction put directly into our heart and mind that we would know the way to go.
Therefore "we are judged by no man" ... for God has shown us what we are to do.
So who is it that has the mind of the Lord that he may instruct us? Can I tell another among us what he or she should do?
The above scripture explains to us that each of us who belong to God are instructed by God.
It is faith to believe that God has shown me what I am to do.
It is by faith that you act on that which you believe God has shown you to do.
Each of us who belong to God "have the mind of God", we know what God's mind is on the matter at hand concerning us.
Cling to that which God has shown you by HIS Spirit.
I Kings 13 ... 1 And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the Lord unto Bethel:and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. 2 And he (the man of God) cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee. 3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the Lord hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
4 And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
5 The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the Lord.
6 And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the Lord thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the Lord, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.
7 And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward. 8 And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:9 For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest. 10 So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.
11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel:the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
12 And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah. 13 And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. More that once, I've had pastors say to me, "You can't be an apostle."
I was unaffected by their words, for like Paul, I know WHOM I have believed.
I know it was God who told me what I am in the church, my assignment.
I know it was God who taught me how to do my assignment in the church.
Therefore I Cor. 2 comes into effect. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Certainly we submit ourselves one to another. Pam Padgett and I have worked together in writing a book. There are times I have submitted to Pam's suggestions concerning the book and have turned from what I thought.
But when God has told me specifically something, when God has put it into my heart to do or speak something, I cling to that.
In the early 1980's, God spoke this to me by HIS Spirit:
"The time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God ...
The time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God ...
The time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God ..."
Shortly after God spoke that to me, God brought to my attentions various sins being committed by ministers. I spoke of these sins and spoke judgment messages much as Jeremiah spoke judgment messages.
One woman, very close to me, came to me asking, "Joan ... is there any way you can be wrong?"
I replied, "No."
She left our group.
I was not turning from what I believed God spoke to me. If you believe it was God who spoke, how can you turn?
I spoke the judgment messages on my radio broadcasts.
The manager of the Seattle radio station came to me and said: "Joan, you have many good messages. Just speak those messages. If you continue to speak these messages you've been speaking I don't know what will happen to you. We might have to put you off the air."
Without any thought at all, the following came out of my mouth and I knew this was the Holy Spirit speaking through me. "George ... if I don't speak the message I believe to be from God then I don't have a message. I may as well be off the air."

We must cling to that word and do it.

We who are of God are taught by God.
God has given us the Holy Spirit so that we can know "the mind of God", the will of God concerning us.
We have the instruction put directly into our heart and mind that we would know the way to go.
Therefore "we are judged by no man" ... for God has shown us what we are to do.
So who is it that has the mind of the Lord that he may instruct us? Can I tell another among us what he or she should do?
The above scripture explains to us that each of us who belong to God are instructed by God.
It is faith to believe that God has shown me what I am to do.
It is by faith that you act on that which you believe God has shown you to do.
Each of us who belong to God "have the mind of God", we know what God's mind is on the matter at hand concerning us.
Cling to that which God has shown you by HIS Spirit.
I Kings 13 ... 1 And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the Lord unto Bethel:and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. 2 And he (the man of God) cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee. 3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the Lord hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
4 And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
5 The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the Lord.
6 And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the Lord thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the Lord, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

Jeremiah 39 ... Viewing the works of God through scripture
1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.
2 And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up.
(Almost 2 years of siege against Jerusalem)
3 And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.
4 And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate betwixt the two walls:and he went out the way of the plain.
5 But the Chaldeans 'army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho:and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.
6 Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes:also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah. 7 Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.
8 And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.
9 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to him, with the rest of the people that remained.
10 But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
11 Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, 12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee. 13 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon's princes; 14 Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home:so he dwelt among the people.
15 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying, 16 Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city (Jerusalem) for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee. 17 But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord:and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. 18 For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee:because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the Lord.
(Ebedmelech the Ethiopian went to the king on behalf of Jeremiah the prophet when they had put Jeremiah into the hole in the prison. After Ebedmelech interceded for Jeremiah, the king allow them to pull Jeremiah out of the hole and allowed Jeremiah to live in the court of the prison. see: Jeremiah chapter 38 ... Now we see God rewarding Ebedmelech for the good done toward Jeremiah the prophet.)

Paul explained: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. I Cor. 2
Something can seem like a good thing, but is it really the way God wants you to go? It is the Holy Spirit who searches the heart of God to find out the thinking of God on the matter at hand. So when we think of something that God might want us to do, we pray, asking God about this idea ... then we wait until we are shown by God one way or another.
Satan appears as an "angel of light" (II Cor. 11:14) with good ideas and good works which would keep us busy and cost us a lot of money. So we have to be sure the idea we have is from God.

Acts 10 ... Reading through the Bible
3He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. 4And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; 8And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, 11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: 12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

Jeremiah 38 ... Viewing the works of God through scripture
1 Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
3 Thus saith the Lord, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.
4 Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death:for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them:for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
(A prophet of God does not speak to welfare or hurt but rather a prophet is faithful to God to speak whatever God gives the prophet without altering the word given him by God.)
5 Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand:for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
6 Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison:and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire:so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
7 Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin; 8 Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king, saying, 9 My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is:for there is no more bread in the city.
10 Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
11 So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. 12 And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so. 13 So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon:and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the Lord:and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
15 Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
16 So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the Lord liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
(The ones who sought the life of Jeremiah were not the nations of men but were the ones of the house of Judah who were called the children of Jacob, Israel.)
17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
19 And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the Lord, which I speak unto thee:so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
21 But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the Lord hath shewed me:22 And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee:thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back. 23 So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans:and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon:and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
(Having a "fear of the Lord" is critical. For when we fear the Lord, we do what God says regardless of what we might think best to do or regardless of what other humans say is best to do. The "fear of the Lord" puts us above men.)
24 Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die. 25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:26 Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.
27 Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him:and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
28 So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken:and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.

The Holy Spirit does not take over the person and cause the person to do things.
The Holy Spirit speaks to us to direct us in the ways of God in the specific issues of this life. The Holy Spirit gives us a choice.
We often think of fleshly ways to deal with problems. When the Holy Spirit reminds us of a scripture or a dream in the issue at hand HE shows us the will of God in the matter so we can turn from the ideas of our own mind and go in the way of God. This is the role of the Holy Spirit.
Some church groups discount the Holy Spirit because they have a misconception concerning what the Holy Spirit actually does.
And some church groups allow another spirit inside their church groups thinking it is the Holy Spirit.
One time I visited a church group and the pastor was speaking to the group. All of a sudden a woman in the group jumped up with her arms in the air and began running in a circle around the congregation shouting, "Praise God ... Praise God ... Praise God." The people in the group became excited and began laughing. They thought this was the Spirit of God overtaking the woman. I was horrified, knowing this was not the Spirit of God but it was another spirit disrupting the gathering of the church and exalting itself above God. Actually this was one of the antichrist spirits.
How do I know? I Cor. 14:40, Paul speaks of what is to happen when we come together as the church. Paul says: Let all things be done decently and in order.
The actions of this woman were out of order. She interrupted the pastor. She took over. She broke up the Spirit of God in the congregation.
I Cor. 14:26 ... How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
To edify means to build up, to instruct, to strengthen.
And Paul explains we do things "in order" in the church ... Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. I Cor. 14
At one time, there was a church in USA called "holy rollers". They had some kind of spirit take over their bodies and they would fall down and roll around on the floor. Again, this was not the spirit of God. There would be no edification in this for those looking at the situation. This would not cause you to have faith in God. This was not the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit brings information from God.

The Holy Spirit brings the word of God and thereby allows you to have a choice between the way of the flesh and the way of God.

Acts 9 ... Reading through the Bible
3And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
6And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?
And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
7And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
10And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

22But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.
23And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him: 24But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. 25Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.
26And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
27But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. 28And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.
29And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him. 30Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
31Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
32And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. 33And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.
34And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed.
And he arose immediately.
35And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
36Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. 37And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.
38And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. 39Then Peter arose and went with them.
When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise.
And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
42And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
43And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
Don't we have the mind of Christ?

God says: 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord:for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. Heb. 8
It is not by your own effort this happens. It is not like learning math where you take a book and learn step by step.
Rather, God puts HIS laws into our mind and God writes HIS laws in our hearts.
When I was a new Christian, God put in my heart things about the Holy Spirit.
Later, I saw these things listed in two chapters of Bible.
It is interesting because one verse is in Jn. 14 ... the other verse is in Jn. 16 ... The information was scattered in two chapters with one chapter between the two verses. (Sort of the way parables kept the people not of God from knowing what Jesus was saying.)
Later, God connected these two verses and I saw what God had already put into my heart on the matter.
Jn. 14:26 ... But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Jn. 16:13 ... Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:and he will shew you things to come.
When Jesus was on the earth in the flesh, the rulers of the synagogue marvelled because they said how did Jesus do this, "never having learned letters" ... He couldn't read or write so how could this be possible for him to do.
"How can Jesus know these things? He didn't go to school to learn like we did."
Jn. 7 ... 14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory:but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
Jesus explained that what he knew was not of man but was from the Father, from God.
Later they said the same concerning His disciples ...
Jn. 6 ... 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught (by) of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned (from)of the Father, cometh unto me.
Peter is one of those taught by God ... Peter learned from God the Father, by God putting information, truth, into his heart.
Mt. 16 ... 13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist:some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona:for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
This truth was revealed by God ... not by any man.
This is the "revealed" word from God.
And upon that the church is built.
The truth was not learned by human effort. It was not researched and learned by effort of Peter. God simply put this truth into Peter's heart.
Often that has happened to me. I just "know".
I know because God has put it in my heart and mind.
Often after I know, I will see it in Bible and thereby what I know is confirmed to me by God through Bible. But before then, God has written that truth in my heart and into my mind.
This is the New Covenant.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:for they are foolishness unto him:neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
We have "the mind of Christ" because God has put it in our mind ... We have truth from God written in our mind and in our hearts by God HIMSELF.
God says: 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord:for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. It is not by your own effort this happens. It is not like learning math where you take a book and learn step by step.
Rather, God puts HIS laws into our mind and God writes HIS laws in our hearts.
When I was a new Christian, God put in my heart things about the Holy Spirit.
Later, I saw these things listed in two chapters of Bible.
It is interesting because one verse is in Jn. 14 ... the other verse is in Jn. 16 ... The information was scattered in two chapters with one chapter between the two verses. (Sort of the way parables kept the people not of God from knowing what Jesus was saying.)

Jeremiah 37 ... Viewing the works of God through scripture
1 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. 2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which HE (God) spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us.
4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people:for they had not put him into prison.
5 Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt:and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

When the Holy Spirit fell on the believers at Pentecost, and when they began to speak in other tongues, these tongues were other languages.
The Holy Spirit spoke the gospel through these other tongues so that people of other nations who witnessed this would be able to hear what the apostles were saying in their own language that they might understand what had happened.
Acts 2 ... And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
And Peter explained what was happening for some thought those speaking in tongues were drunk.
Acts 2 ... Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
And Peter continued speaking many words telling of Jesus the promised savior ... The power of God, the Holy Spirit, had fallen on Peter and others and by this power of God, Peter was speaking to the people that day and telling them the things of God. Remember Jesus had said to them to remain in Jerusalem until they received "power" and this was the power ... the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit speaking through Peter.
We can't do these things of ourselves nor of our own reasoning. But when the Holy Spirit comes upon us we receive power of God to speak the things of God.
Acts 2 ... Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls ... And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
One working of the Holy Spirit is to convince men of their sins. Jesus said this to HIS disciples before the crucifixion:
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Jn. 16
That is what happened in Pentecost example.
When the Holy Spirit is doing the work there is power to change men. Without change we know man did the work himself and it was not of the Spirit of God.
Example of the Holy Spirit working: I was baptized in water when I was 15 years old. But I was not born of the Spirit of God until God spoke to me when I was 37 years old. God spoke to me in the form of a thought. God said, "Joan... You know all these mistakes you've been making all these years? ... Those weren't mistakes ... Those were sin."
? SIN ? ... I was shocked! (My life changed instantly at this point)
The Spirit of God entered my life and that made all the difference. I didn't speak in tongues. I didn't run around the room with hands raised. I simply heard from God by His spirit and heard truth about myself and was changed.
And I was immediately excited. I had been staying at the home of my best friend and her husband while I was recovering from an operation. As I left the house that day and passed Donna, I remarked, "Oh, by the way ... I don't think I was a Christian until now." I walked on out the door. Donna began shouting: "Wait ... Joanie ... come back ... what did you say?" I told her what had happened to me and how God spoke to me and I believed that now I was a Christian although I thought before this I was a Christian but I didn't live like a Christian before this happened to me. Now I was different inside!
This is an example of real change ... Change by the Spirit of God speaking by the will of God ... That is the power!
