The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good
understanding have all they that do HIS commandments: HIS praise
endureth for ever.

To me, "The fear of the Lord" is a very deep understanding that God knows what is best so when HE tells me something I should be afraid not to do what HE says.
And we are shown that God gives a good understanding when we do HIS commandments.
Also
to seek the praise of men is foolish. Please God and seek HIS praise
in all things. Then evil doers will likely depart from us or be saved
and changed by God.
And God's praise is not temporary but endures forever and does not change as man's praise changes.
