Scripture: Shared by body of Christ

Hebrews 13:5-6 ... Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

The problem starts with a strong desire for something on this earth ...

Certainly it is the human way to want things.

But the more we focus on things of the earth, the more trouble we are likely to cause ourselves.

The Bible is God's way of freeing us.

The current heaven and earth will pass away in the judgment of man.  All these things we can see with our natural eye will be burned in the fire.

II Peter 3 ... But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?  13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.


The people of the world do not know these things we know.  They desire many things of this world.  They also desire personal achievements.  They have no idea that all these goals will be futile and of no real value in the end.  Either they die or the end comes by the judgment spoken of in II Peter 3.

But we who are of God know these things.  So we should be guided by them.  

And we have the following instruction.

Col. 3 ... If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.  3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:


Jesus said it would end like a thief in the night ... a thief strikes when we aren't looking for him.

And what of all these thoughts of tomorrow?  Certainly the world plans that way, always planning.  But we who are of God are warned not to do this.

Recently I was asleep and was awakened by a strange noise.  The cat was beside me and was also awakened.  We both were stunned by this noise, having no idea what it was.  Finally I realized it was coming from the motor in the blind that covers the glass doors beside the bed.  The electricity had gone off and triggered this.

I thought about the day of the Lord and how shocked everyone will be.  The heavens will pass with a loud noise.  Mt. 24

No one alive on earth at the time will miss the event.

We read there will be signs in the sky before the returning of the Lord.  Lk. 21  Signs in the sun, signs in the moon, signs in the stars.  We will not have to go outside for these events .... If we are in the house, the noise will catch our attention.  It will be like nothing we have ever heard before.  Then we can run outside and look!  But we who are of God will know what is happening because we know the Bible.  The world will have no idea what is going on.

This could happen at any time and all that worrying about tomorrow will end up being fretting over nothing.

Old people won't need a retirement home.  We won't have to be concerned over our teeth lasting our lifetime.  Money won't matter.

Mt. 6 ... Jesus says ... Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

And another warning from James ...

James 4 ... Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.  15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will,  we shall live, and do this, or that. 16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.


We, who are of God, should not be fretting and planning the way this world does.  We have different instructions to guide us.

To bring us back to God's reality and God's way of escape, focus on this:

I Tim. 6 ...But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts 

Do I have food today?  Do I have raiment today?

This makes it very simple.

Overcoming vs. being overcome

I Cor. 10 ... Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.  5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

This world is like the wilderness of the Old Testament.

For the world to overcome us is a very terrible thing.  And we see by the above scripture that God is not well pleased with those who are overthrown in the wilderness.

Several times in Revelation, Jesus says HE is returning for a church that overcomes ...

When we go out into the world to get our groceries or do other things we run into all types of worldly spirits which would defeat us if possible.  But we have the Spirit of God.  We have a far greater power in us than is in the people of the world.

Paul lists several reasons they were overcome in the wilderness as examples for us today.

I Cor. 10

- they lusted after evil things 
- some were idolaters (worshiping something other than God)
- some were fornicators
- some tempted Christ
- some were murmurers / complainers

I Cor. 10:11 ... Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.  

Think of how they complained ... they didn't like all that manna ... they wanted flesh to eat ... they were sorry they ever followed Moses out of Egypt ... they forgot the hardship put on them by the Egyptians ... now they say why did you take us out of Egypt to die in this wilderness, blaming Moses and Aaron, failing to see their redemption from God ... all sorts of complaining ...

Negative ... so much negative ... evil reports concerning the good that God intended ... turning back from that good through negative thoughts or fears.

All these things are examples of being overthrown in the wilderness and failing to please God.

We must not let this happen to us.  We also read in I Cor. 10 that God has made a way of escape for each of us ...

I Cor. 10:13 ... There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.  14Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.


We must stop all negative talk and all negative thinking and build ourselves up in God who overcomes all things and overcomes all people.  When you give a negative report you deny so much scripture and you deny the power of God in your own life.  Negative is opposite from operating in faith.

Heb. 11:1-2 ...Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  2For by it the elders obtained a good report.

One purpose of the blog and all the writings we do is to fill us with the way of God daily so we overcome in this world.

Scripture: Shared by body of Christ

Hebrews 8:10-12 ... For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The greatest things that has ever happened to me was God choosing me and changing me and thereby my becoming a Christian.  I was so proud when God revealed HIMSELF to me.  Nothing I had been doing prior to this meant anything to me any longer after this happened.

Through the years, I've heard people say:  "The greatest thing that ever happened to me was meeting my wife." ... or "The greatest thing that ever happened to me were my children."

The greatest thing that ever happened to me was having God reveal Himself to me and giving me the Holy Spirit to show me things of God and putting HIS laws into my heart and into my mind.  

It is God who opens our understand that we can know HIM.

Homosexuals

We have increasing reports of open homosexuals, men admitting with pride that they are homosexual ...

This can trouble us and grieve us.

I think the Holy Spirit spoke something to me to allow me to handle this ... What I heard is:  "Is is worse to be homosexual than it is to be a fornicator?"

Both will be destroyed by God in judgment in many cases ... some will be saved by God and repent if God reveals the truth to such ... After repenting, they will not continue in "this sin" ... Jesus told the woman taken in adultery to go, and sin no more ... Jn. 4 ... sin no more ... don't do this sin again ...

So when God opens the eyes of the homosexual, fornicator, or adulter, then that person will flee that sin and go in the way of God.  And some will be saved.

Certainly we who belong to God do not approve homosexual acts just as we do not approve sex outside of marriage which is fornication.

But all around us today we see the world approving fornication.  Now we are seeing the world approve homosexuals.  But we know these acts are sins and we would not approve such.  (Romans 1)

And we know the following truth:

I Cor. 6 ... Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 
We know when these things increase in the world, we draw nearer the return of Jesus.  When the cup of iniquity is full, the end comes, thus our redemption.  We look forward to that new heaven and new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.  2 Peter 3
In meantime, we turn from such and focus on stories of good report as Paul said to do. 

Phil. 4:8 ... Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Helping your "brethren"

There is a woman in our church group who was having trouble because her way was so negative.  I couldn't stand being around her because you never knew when she would drop a bomb with her mouth and then I would have to live with her discouraging words about the issue.  I saw this as similar to the evil report brought back when God sent them to search out the land.  Numbers 13 & 14  This report discouraged the people and made them feel weak and defeated.  And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land. 27And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. 29The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan. 30And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it

31But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. 32And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel.

...And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. 2And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron:


I began working with this woman, showing her various things she had said which were discouraging to others.  For example:  She said when she went to pick up food at this certain restaurant, then never had fish so she quit going.  I had gone to this restaurant many times and after she said that negative word I found before I got there I always wondered if they would have fish.  Her words troubled me needlessly on this matter.  And I found about 15 times straight when I went there they did have fish but I was always troubled before I got there because of her report.  God opened her understanding so she could know what I was saying so she could change.

This needless troubling by saying negative things or by needlessly telling others what you don't like can hurt others.  There is no reason to do this.  And it can bring harm. 

This woman learned remarkably fast after I gave her these negative examples. (but I know God opened her understanding on this) She  really began not speaking negative things and then she was a delight to me when I was with her.  It made all the difference.

Later I was reading Joshua 1 and the following stood out to me ... Three tribes were given an inheritance on "this side" of Jordan but they had to go with the other tribes and defeat the enemy before they could return and enjoy their inheritance.

Joshua 1:14-15   but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;  15Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

Negative reports can really harm other people needlessly.  Saying what we "don't like" is often just a type of pride in us.  We don't have to do this and shouldn't do this unless we are warning the other person in a godly way.

And when we see a brother or sister in Christ who is negative and has not entered into the possession which is rightfully theirs through Christ, we who have entered in help them to enter in.  Then we can "return" and enjoy our "possession" which God gave us.

We help others to enter in.

Heb. 4 ...  Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.   3For we which have believed do enter into rest,

... There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

... Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief

We overcome through God, through that idea or word given us by God.  Being negative is failure on our part.  The church is to overcome not fail.  And we overcome by taking the idea or matter to God in prayer and by focusing on that given to us by the Holy Spirit.


Jesus always pleased the Father

As Jesus walked on this earth, other people and the devil tried to get Jesus to do as they said, saying if He is the Son of God He should do these things.  But Jesus did not do according to the will of man or the devil, but according to the will of the Father. 

The devil tried to get Jesus to turn stones into bread, but Jesus didn't do as the devil directed.  Instead, Jesus answered according to God's view ... Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God ...  

Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 

Then the devil tried to get Jesus to cast himself from a pinnacle of the temple.  The devil even quoted scripture, but not according to the wisdom of God.  Jesus did not do as the devil said.  Jesus brought forth the word of God which shined light on what the devil told Him to do ... Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God ....

Matthew 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Another example ... When Jesus was crucified those that passed by, chief priests, scribes, and elders tried to get Jesus to prove He is the Son of God by coming down from the cross.  But Jesus, being the Son of God and doing according to the will and purpose of the Father, did not come down from the cross ...

Matthew 27:39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. 41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. 43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.


Jesus didn't try to prove Himself as the devil and other people told Him to do. Instead, Jesus did always those things that pleased the Father ...

John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

As Jesus did what pleased the Father, the works He did proved that He is the Son of God.  The Father also testified Jesus is His Son, including  ...

when Jesus was baptized ...

Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

when Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a mountain, was transfigured before them, and spoke with Moses and Elias ...

Matthew 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

and in events God brought forth after Jesus was crucified ...

Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Scripture: Shared by body of Christ

Psalm 1:1-3 ... Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

In Dallas in the 1970's, there was an event called "Crystal Charity Ball" ... This was a major social event. They auctioned off objects for charity and the very rich people were invited to attend.  As I understand this it was a very cherished thing to receive an invitation to this event.

I owned a business in Dallas and one of my customers asked me if I would donate something to this ball.  I donated some miniature pottery which they put in a doll house to auction.  Apparently they liked this donation very much for they sent me an invitation to this ball.

This was about the time I became a Christian.  I had invited my pastor and his wife to dinner at my house and it happened the dinner was the same night as the ball.

I was so honored that pastor would come to my house.  I never even considered going to that secular event.  I called and told the organizers I would not be attending.  The woman who answered the phone was shocked.  She said, "But we have you sitting between Mr. Stanley & Mr. Richard  (Marcus of Neiman-Marcus)."  I said:  "You'll have to find someone else to sit there for my pastor is coming to dinner at my house that night." 

My delight was in things of God and in people of God.

I didn't want to be with rich influential people of this world.  Even if they had worldly power to help my business, my focus and desire was toward God and the Word of God.

God saw that I prospered.  (had good success)

And every way I turned I had good success.

But all I cared about was the Bible and things of God.





When you don't know what to do

Usually when I have a secular problem and pray, something will come to me which gives me the answer to the problem and shows me the way to deal with the problem.

Recently I ran into a "small" secular problem and I couldn't seem to get a break through on the problem and it got so strong that strife was coming to my mind and even in this I could not stop the "attack".

Finally, I just sat down before God and said:  "I don't know the way to go.  I don't seem to have direction from you.  But even though I can't seem to hear on this matter, I am putting my trust in YOU for only YOU are God.  There is no other place to go and no other God but YOU."

It felt like the time Daniel prayed and didn't hear an answer and after many days the angel appeared and told Daniel that he was hindered from coming with the answer ... Dan. 10 ... And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.  11And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.   12Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.  14Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.  

I felt something was holding up the answer to my small secular problem.  Even though the problem was very small, it felt like the hold up in the case of Daniel.

Then I simply came to point that even though I hadn't heard in this matter, I was going to trust in God for if I don't trust in God there is nothing to trust in.

Jn. 6 ... Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?  62What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67Then said Jesus unto the twelve,  Will ye also go away? 68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Later I knew I could stop depending on the business that was frustrating me in this matter and find another business.  I began hunting and did find a business in Lubbock that might be able to help me.  I called this business but so far haven't heard back from them on the matter.  Nevertheless after this, the "satanic" attacks stopped and I felt relief though there was no real action concerning the solution to the problem at the time.  I was freed before the solution.

(About a week after this happened, I saw James 3 where is says if there is envy and strife there is confusion ... Strife is trying to get things done your own way... I think this may be the cause of my temporary paralysis .)

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Heaven and earth will pass away.

II Peter 3 ... Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:  6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.


Those things, those possessions that we hold dear on this present earth will be gone with the earth.

The thing that will remain is the Word of God which endures forever.

Are we investing in that which will never be destroyed?

Joshua 1:9 ...Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

be not afraid:

- feeling of fear or anxiety
- worried that something undesirable will occur or be done
- unwilling or reluctant to do something (when God shows you) for fear of consequences
- anxious about the well-being or safety of someone or something

Turning to God in prayer with all fears is our answer.  If we have any concern, turning to God and presenting that concern to HIM in prayer is our answer.  Sometimes we forget to do this and end up carrying the concern ourselves.  Then we wake up and take the problem to God and so often that needless pressure lifts from us and we are at peace again.


The world tries to work out a plan to take care of the problem.  If we do that, we are usually in trouble.  But it never fails when we lay the problem out before God in faith and choose to trust God to work it out.

Sometimes we forget to do this.

I Sam. 17 ...And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; 18And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.   19Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. 20And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; 


We notice that David didn't go off on his own.  He was following the instruction given him by his father.  And before David went, he took measures to see that the sheep were cared for while he was gone.

Later his brother accused David wrongly of both matters.

His brother said to David ... I Sam. 17 ... And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

But David had simply done as his father commanded.  And he had made arrangements for care of the sheep before he left.

When David heard these Philistines defying the armies of God and had seen the armies of God afraid and draw back, David was horrified.

David knew God with with him.  David had experience with God.  David knew what God could do.

And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. 33And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. 34And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:  35And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 36Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. 37David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.


I've seen the Word of God overcome in battles.  I know when the word of God is revealed by the Holy Spirit we have the answer.  Nothing will be able to overcome the revealed word of God.

Mt. 16 ... When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist:  some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.


In this scripture, Jesus explains that God had revealed HIM to Peter.  And that revelation from God was all powerful.  The gates of hell will not be able to stand against that which God reveals to us.
