πŸ’₯ That thou mayest walk in the way of good, and keep the paths of the righteous. (Prov. 2:20)

(Comments by Joan Boney)

As I awoke this morning, I was hearing this:

Proverbs 4

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil.

15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

What is good?  What is evil?

One problem:  Many people want to be wise in their own eyes.  This causes people to praise them.

If your wisdom comes from God, and you say "God told me this", then God will be praised.

The devil appeared to Eve to tempt her, to get her to disobey God.

Genesis 3

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

(Eve added to the word of God: God did not say, "Neither shall ye touch it.")

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

A promise of God:

James 1:5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But many people want to glorify themselves, having people see them as being wise.

They do not want to have God give them wisdom.  They want to do it themselves.  They don't think they need God to help them.  They think they know what to do.

Proverb 14:12  There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
