Hymn: I'll Fly Away

Piano music unavailable at this time

1.  Some glad morning when this life is o'er,
I'll fly away.
To a home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away.

Chorus

I'll fly away, O Glory,
I'll fly away.
When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye,
I'll fly away.

2.  When the shadows of this life have flown,
I'll fly away.
Like a bird from prison bars have flown,
I'll fly away.

3.  Oh how glad and happy when we meet,
I'll fly away.
No more cold iron shackles on my feet,
I'll fly away.

4.  Just a few more joyous *  days and then,
I'll fly away.
To a land where joy shall never end,
I'll fly away.

Scriptures pertaining to this hymn:

v. 1  I'll fly away ...

When Jesus returns for the church, those persons who are "asleep" (dead) will rise to meet Jesus in the air".

Some Christians, will be alive at the time Jesus returns.  They will be taken off this earth, rising to meet Jesus "in the air." , if they are "ready" ... We keep ourselves "ready" by living in peace, without spot, and blameless as Peter told us to do in II Peter 3:14.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18   But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep (dead), that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep (die) in Jesus will God bring with Him.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede) them which are asleep (dead)

For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

***

This present heaven and earth will be destroyed.

II Peter 3:10-14    But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,  Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

***

So we have to meet Jesus in the air since this present earth will no longer exist and HE will take us to the new heaven, the new earth, the new Jerusalem which God creates for us to live with HIM.

God showed the apostle John the new heaven, the new earth, the new Jerusalem where we will then live with God and Jesus and The Holy Spirit.

Revelation 21:1-5   And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and HE will dwell with them, and they shall be HIS people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

And HE that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

We will be given new bodies when we are raised to be with Jesus.

I Corinthians 15:50-52   Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

In the blink of an eye, we leave these current fleshly bodies and our spirit flies away.

***

I Corinthians 15:35-38   But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come

Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased Him, and to every seed his own body.

***

I Corinthians 15:50    Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

This makes sense when we realize the bodies we now have on this earth are subject to corruption through injury and disease.

In the new "earth" we have no pain, no sorrow, no death.

Our current bodies are subject to problems. This body we now have cannot go with us when we die.

In death the spirit departs from the human.  The previous flesh decays and stays on this earth.  God gives our spirit a "new body".

v. 4  The song writer said, "Just a few more weary days and then, I'll fly away."

But through the Word, we do not live as Christians in "weary"  days on this earth but rather we continually overcome through God on this earth as we wait for Jesus.

Therefore, our days today should not be weary, but joyous.

As we take every concern to God, as we are told to do in Philippians 4:6, for HIS help and answers, and therefore because we pray over all our concerns and have faith God will help us, we live in peace and joy on this earth as we wait for Jesus to return for us.

Philippians 4:6-7   Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

***

I Corinthians 10:5  But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Many Christians today are overthrown by problems because they fail to pray over problems, but we should not be overcome by the problems of this world.  We pray and God shows us how to overcome the situation.

Jesus is returning for an overcoming church ... a church that believes in HIM.

In Revelation 2 and 3, over and over Jesus says for the church to "overcome" ...

- To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

- He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

- To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

- He that overcometh, and keepeth MY works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:  And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of MY Father.  And I will give him the morning star.

- He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before MY Father, and before HIS angels.

- Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of MY God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of MY God, and the name of the city of MY God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from MY God: and I will write upon him MY new name.

- To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with ME in MY throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with MY Father in HIS throne.

- Because thou hast kept the word of MY patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

***

We will never fail through that which God shows us.

It is up to us to do the Word of God while we live on this earth and to overcome with joy and to live in the peace that comes as we believe what God says.

When we do this, our days cannot be "weary" ... so we should change this hymn in verse 4, and sing of "joyous" days instead of "weary" days as we live on this earth by faith and by the help God gives us daily.
