Hymn: Power in the Blood

(Click forward arrow > to play music:)

1.  Would you be free from your burden of sin?
There’s power in the blood,
power in the blood;
Would you o’er evil a victory win?

There’s wonderful power in the blood.

Chorus:

There is power, power,
wonder-working power,
In the blood ... of the Lamb;

There is power, power,

wonder-working power,
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

2.  Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s power in the blood,
power in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide,

There’s wonderful power in the blood.

3.  Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There’s power in the blood,
power in the blood;
Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow,

There’s wonderful power in the blood.

4.  Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s power in the blood,
power in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?

There’s wonderful power in the blood.

Scripture pertaining to above hymn:

Hebrews 9:22    without shedding of blood is no remission.

God explained it to me this way:  You did not shed your blood for your sins.  Jesus shed HIS blood for your sins.

You can do nothing to pay for your sins other than to trust in the shed blood of Jesus.  Believing in Jesus and HIS works justifies you.  You cannot be justified by your own works.  You are saved by grace.  After you are saved, then you do the works of God as the Holy Spirit in you shows you what to do and you choose to do that which HE shows you.

***

I John 1:7   But if we walk in the light, as HE is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ HIS Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If we "walk in the light" of the Word of God ... we have fellowship with others who walk in the light ... and then the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all our sins.

It is like going to a car wash to have our car cleaned.  We drive onto the tracks and the car is washed as long as that car stays on the tracks.  As long as we walk in the Word of God we are on the tracks.

When bad memories come to pull us down, we refuse to continue to think on such and we deliberately return to thinking on the fact that those things we did in past are washed away and we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus and all past sins are removed by Jesus' shed blood.

Jesus died to pay for our sins.

We acknowledge this sacrifice of Jesus each time we make ourselves stop thinking of our past sins and think instead of Jesus' payment for our sins.

And we acknowledge that we are now dead to sins with Jesus so we can now serve God instead of serving sins ... and we go forward by faith.  We cannot allow ourselves to dwell in the past for to do so denies the blood shed by Jesus for our sins.

Therefore Paul says:

Philippians 3:13-14    Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
