Keeping my flesh under control

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

When I started this recent crock pot cooking project, I saw some fleshly temptations and saw ways that I once went that I no long want to go in.

I did pull up a food blog where a young woman compiles many recipes.

I noticed she had written about the slow cookers she found best.

I didn't want to get involved in "the best".

Being the best ... having the best ... used to consume me.

I now find I don't need the best ... know this is just a fleshly temptation ...

I told God I don't want to go overboard.

We can start out in a good way and a way that is even authored by God ... and end up going in a fleshly way that can overwhelm us.

I want to keep my mind on things of God ... Bible, scriptures, what the Holy Spirit has said to me, keeping my own heart right with God, correcting myself as needed, sharing with the body of Christ.

We really have to control our flesh.

I Corinthians 9:24-27    Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Temperate:  showing moderation or self-restraint ... not affected by passion or emotion ... disciplined...

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Luke 21:34    Jesus says:  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Surfeiting:  over indulgence in earthly matters

Drunkenness:  losing control ... such as being drunk in attention to physical appearance, clothing, cosmetics for women ... being drunk in any earthly pursuit, gardening, TV, secular book reading and such.  This earth is very temporary.  Surely we know that!

Cares of this life:  letting people and things trouble you and consume you ... instead of taking the issue to God in prayer each time the person or thing comes to mind, and allowing God to establish your thoughts.

II Peter 3:10-14    But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Colossians 3:  1-5       If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
