πŸ’₯Podcast: Lessons in life from the Bible: Lesson #12 - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

I Thessalonians 4:13-17

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1.   Low in the grave He lay —
Jesus my Savior!
Waiting the coming day —

Jesus my Lord!

Chorus:

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes.
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,

And He lives forever in His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

2.   Vainly they watch His tomb
Jesus, my Savior!
Vainly they seal the dead—

Jesus my Lord!

3.  Death cannot keep his prey—
Jesus, my Savior!
He tore the bars away—

Jesus my Lord!

2 Timothy 2:3-4   Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

πŸ’₯ The flesh brings forth no good thing

Barbara Preston, member of the body of Christ

Years ago God spoke the following to me … THE FLESH NEVER IMPROVES.  IT NEVER GETS ANY BETTER.

No matter how long we have been a Christian our flesh never gets any better. We are born again when God gives us HIS Holy Spirit to live inside us and, from then on, we have the ability to turn to God and HE will help us overcome the desires of our flesh so we can please HIM and not sin in whatever it is that we are dealing with.

One day a while back I was driving when another driver blew her horn at me a couple of times, in impatience, over a traffic situation.

A flash of anger rose up in me and I joined in, doing the same to her. These things can happen so quickly.

Of course, I was sorry for what I had done and repented.

But I also knew that I would do exactly the same thing again, if I did not strongly and immediately turn to God and ask HIM to please help me keep my flesh under control.

Then we are able to overcome, through HIM, and please HIM.

Also I was reminded of the following scripture where Paul said…

Romans 7:18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing:

πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯

I Corinthians 9:26-27 ... Paul said ... I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Hebrews 10:35-36  Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Luke 18:1-8   And HE (Jesus) spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

7 And shall not God avenge HIS own elect, which cry day and night unto HIM, though HE bear long with them?

8 I tell you that HE will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall HE find faith on the earth?

Scriptures:

Matthew 7: 13-14   Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to HIM (Jesus), he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But HE
(Jesus) answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Ezekiel 36:23-36   And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.

31 Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord God, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.

33 Thus saith the Lord God; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.

34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by.

35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited.

36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do it.

πŸ’₯Podcast: Later in 1975: Taken into heaven twice...

2 Corinthians 14:2-4  Paul says:  I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)

4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35  Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

1 Corinthians 14:26   How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

Acts 21:8-9  And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

Luke 2:36-40   And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of HIM to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

40 And the Child (Jesus) grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon HIM.

Judges 4:4-5  And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

Ephesians 4:11-13  And HE gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Philippians 4:6-7   Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 4:2-3  For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as HE said, As I have sworn in MY wrath, if they shall enter into My rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Psalms Chapter 8

1 (To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.) O LORD our Lord, how excellent is THY name in all the earth! WHO hast set THY glory above the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast THOU ordained strength because of THINE enemies, that THOU mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider THY heavens, the work of THY fingers, the moon and the stars, which THOU hast ordained;

4 What is man, that THOU art mindful of him? and the SON of MAN, that THOU visitest HIM?

5 For THOU hast made HIM a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned HIM with glory and honour.

6 Thou madest HIM to have dominion over the works of THY hands; THOU hast put all things under HIS feet:

7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is THY name in all the earth!

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
