I John 4
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
(Thoughts sometime come foretelling what is going to happen in future. If we fail to try that spirit that spoke that thought, and that spirit is not of God, then it would be like practicing witchcraft if we tell that thought, for it would be to speak "prophecies" from a spirit not of God.)
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is HE that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Comments by Joan Boney:
God shows me this:
If we fail to try the spirit and we tell something a spirit brings to mind, it is like practicing witchcraft. (like fortunetelling)
If we fail to try the spirit and we tell something a spirit brings to mind, it is like practicing witchcraft. (like fortunetelling)
But if we try the spirit that brings the thought of what is going to happen and we find that spirit is not of God that puts that thought "to death".
If we allow a thought to remain in our heart without "trying the spirit" at some point the thought that spirit brought will come out of our mouth foretelling future that is a lie. But if the spirit is of God the thought brought is no lie but prophecy from God.
We must try the spirit: "Do you confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh?"
