πŸ’₯ Do we seek approval from God or from those around us?

Barbara Preston, member of the body of Christ

I recently became aware of a story about two people who announced their engagement to be married. The man has been married and divorced one time. The woman has been twice married and twice divorced.

This account told how the man proposed to his fiancΓ©e in the church they both attend which was identified as a Protestant evangelical church because he felt their faith was so strong that it seemed like their church was where this should be done. The account went on to tell how they had talked to their pastor about their plan to marry, and had sought out the approval of the children from their previous marriages and had sought the approval of friends also. Apparently everyone they talked to, including their pastor, approved and were happy about their upcoming marriage.

What struck me so strongly about this story is that these church people cared so much about whether the people around them approved of their planned marriage but apparently knew nothing about (or cared nothing about) what the Holy Bible, the written Word of God, instructs on this subject, such as the following scriptures ...

Matthew 5:31-32 (Jesus said) It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery

Matthew 19:9 (Jesus said) And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11  And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

The only thing that matters to a Christian, meaning someone who has the Holy Spirit living inside them, is always what God says about the matter.

If you attend a church and find that church does not obey the Word of God, then how can you continue to sit there among them and be a part of their apostasy?
