* Sodomites: God's view of homosexuals and lesbians

God's view matters greatly.  God's view is the only thing that really matters.

In the Old Testament, the homosexuals were called "sodomites".

Leviticus 18:22   (to men)   Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Leviticus 20:13    If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Sodomites (homosexuals) appear in the following Old Testament scriptures.

Deuteronomy 23:17   There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

I Kings 14:24   And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. 

I Kings 15:11-12   And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father.
And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 

I Kings 22:42-43   Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.

46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.

II Kings 23:7   And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the Lord

Genesis 13:13   But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. 

Exceedingly implies they were wicked and sinners above all others.


Here is a description of the sins of the men of Sodom.

Genesis 19:1-13    And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.


But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:

These homosexuals came out from every part of the city of Sodom.  This city, Sodom, was filled with men who committed homosexual acts.

And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
  (have sex with them)

And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,  And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.  Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

But the men
(the 2 angels) put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.

And they
(the angels) smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

And the men
(the angels) said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:


For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.

Note that throughout the Old Testaments the homosexuals are named after the city of Sodom being called "sodomites".

Today homosexuals frequently say they were born homosexual.

But the Bible tells us the following.

Mark 10:6   But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

(When God created humans, they were born either male or female.)

That which God created was good.

Man corrupted the good which God created.

In Romans 1, we see that God's view of homosexuals and lesbians is persons of "vile affections."

26-28   For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.


And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

I Corinthians 6:9-10    Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate  (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.  

Some committed the above sins but after they were born again, recreated by the Spirit of God, they  turned from these sins and committed these sins no more. 

We do not accept known homosexuals or lesbians or drunkards or fornicators into the New Testament church congregation.

If a person who had been known as such in the community showed up at church one day, it would be proper to examine that person. 

We would pray about what to do, but it would be very foolish to rush to such and say, "We are so glad you are here." 

First, we would want to know, "What happened?" 

If he should say to us God reached him and showed him his sin, we would then rejoice. 

And so it would be with known drunkards or fornicators or prostitutes. 

But all the church would need such testimony when a known sinner comes among the church.

John 8:11   Jesus to the woman taken in adultery   "Go, and sin no more." 

Those who committed such sins could not continue in those sins.

Hebrews 10:26-31   For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

For we know HIM that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto ME, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge HIS people.


It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Dealing with sins in the congregation of the New Testament church.

That which the apostle Paul says to do with a Christian who commits sins of fornication, covetousness, idolatry, reviling, drunkenness, or extortion.

I Corinthians 5:1-13  It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
  To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 

(I believe we deliver such to Satan when we put him out of the church.)

Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:  Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

(Do not try to eat the word of God with such a person.)

For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

We do not judge the world but we must judge the church.

But we do not knowingly permit homosexuals, lesbians, or other sinners into the church when there is unrepentant sin.

If a person should come among us and we knew that person to have been a homosexual, or to be committing other sins, it would be proper for us to examine that person to see his current thinking and to establish truth in the matter. If he said he is still homosexual or drunkard or fornicator or such, we would take all the scriptures before him. If he refused the scriptures, we would not accept him as a Christian. 

And if a person comes among the church as a Christian but is committing sins, we put that person out of the congregation, removing him from the church.

If he calls himself a Christian and comes among us but he is committing various sins while calling himself Christian, we would put him out of the church and refuse to "eat" the Word of God with him, not keeping company with him. We do not counsel that person who says he is a brother while he commits these sins which are known to all brothers. Not do we pray for him. We do as Paul said to do and remove him from the congregation.

Incredibly, I've heard of some churches today accepting practicing homosexuals and lesbians into their ministries as pastors.

The fact that we call ourselves a "church" should immediately imply we are children of God, servants of God, obeying the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Bible, the New Testament, on the issues of this present life. 

Jude vv. 3-19  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. 

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, HE hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. 

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of HIS saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.  But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. 

I couldn't sit in those church groups where these things were sanctioned. Why go to those churches? 

These are indeed perilous times as said by the apostle Paul.  II Timothy 3
