Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet
After we are born again, God gives us HIS Spirit to dwell in us and lead us and guide us and show us things to come. John 14:26 & John 16:13
In the Old Testament, God gave the Holy Spirit to "some" ... David is one of those ... David once prayed, "Take not thy Holy Spirit from me."
In the Old Testament, the prophets were given the Spirit of God. But not all in the Old Testament were given the Spirit of God to dwell in them and to lead them. Therefore in the Old Testament they had to go to a prophet to inquire of God.
But today, each of us who belong to God are given HIS Spirit to dwell in us to teach us and guide us and remind us of all that Jesus has said and even to show us things to come.
The Holy Spirit does this by bringing thoughts to our minds to show us the will of God.
(But the devil can speak to us by bringing thoughts to our mind and our own flesh can bring thoughts, ideas, to our mind ... so we have to know which thought is from the Holy Spirit. We can do this through prayer and also through understanding the wisdom that is of God. James 3:17)
Sometimes the thoughts that are from God can surprise you.
In 2018, I ordered a new TV. I waited for 2 months expecting the TV to arrive weekly. I wanted to be patient. Finally, the idea came to check to see when to expect the TV. At first, I tried to resist doing this, thinking I needed to be patient. But I felt this idea was of God so I called and found the TV was at the shop and they just needed to set up an installation time. I said, "Then let's do that." They set a time immediately.
Later I had a reason to go into the shop and I noticed 8-10 boxes containing TV's sitting in a row. I looked at the top of the boxes and saw names on each box. I said to the clerk, "It looks like you have several TV's waiting for Patrick to install them." She replied they certainly did.
I might still be waiting if I had not called when I did.
God knows what we need to do and sometimes it is not the thing that seems spiritual to us but another direction. It seems more spiritual to wait until they call me than to inquire. But with this instance, inquiry worked without being insistent or striving. And it was God leading me to call them.

God leads us by thoughts brought to our minds by the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
James 3:16-17 where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
