Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Reading this scripture reminds me of something frightening which happened to me recently and how God helped me.
One evening I needed to take a large pill but instead of being able to swallow it, it became lodged in the back of my throat and no matter how much water I drank, for some reason, it didn't move.
I couldn't cough it up and I couldn't swallow it and I started feeling like I was choking. I was panicked by this feeling.
But as I stood there I suddenly realized that I was hearing the following words ... Get some bread.
I was in the kitchen when this happened so I turned around and saw some bread on the counter which we had left over from dinner so I quickly grabbed some of it, put it in my mouth, chewed and swallowed it.
Doing this moved the pill a little further down my throat so I knew this was working. I took another bite and, after I swallowed it, the pill was completely gone!
Immediately after this happened I felt such a feeling of relief and gratitude and was reminded of the above scripture telling us that God is a very present help in trouble. I was too panicked to pray but God was right there ... a very wonderful and present help!
