Psalm 121 ... Prayers to God & Promises from God to the Church

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,

from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord,
which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved:
he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel
shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper:
the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:
he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in
from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Comments by Joan Boney...

Most likely these 3 lines of this Psalm should be read together.

from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord,
which made heaven and earth.

Help does not come from the "hills" as the first line would indicate if it is attached to "from whence cometh my help."  One can look to the hills, but the hills are just the created, not the creator.  Help is from "the Lord", the Word, which made heaven and earth.

Jn. 1 ...  1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Genesis 1 ...  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Who is the God we worship?  Who is the God of Abraham.  HE is God who created the heaven and the earth.  HE is unlike any other of the so-called gods.  HE created heaven and earth and everything living on the earth and in the seas.  HE created and rules the sun, the moon, the stars.  They obey HIM.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:
he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in
from this time forth, and even for evermore.
