Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

The fear of the Lord is a respect and awe over what God says.
When you fear the Lord, you reverence the word of God.
You know that it is disastrous for you to go any way other than the way God says in HIS word.

When I was born again, I attended a church group with my best friend and her husband. The speakers at that group were professors from Dallas Theological Seminary. The doctrine was somewhere between Church of Christ and Baptist.
One day I was reading the Bible and saw the following verse.
I Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
I was really shocked when I saw this, for the church I was attending was not only forbidding tongues but also teaching tongues to be of the devil.
I greatly cared what the Bible said. Therefore I did not return to that church group. They were teaching opposite from the word of God.
(Antichrist: opposite to what God says.)
II Thessalonians 2:3-4 that day (of the Lord) shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
The "falling away" are church groups falling away from scripture ... the apostasy of the last days.
Antichrist (a spirit in man) sits in the temple of God, in the church, opposing what God has said in specific scripture.

When we see that being taught in church which is opposite to what the Bible says, we must leave that church group for it is antichrist in the church.
The restraint holding antichrist back from the church group was scripture. When scripture was removed (even in part), lawlessness moved into the church group.

Today I would not attend a church group if they were teaching it is alright for a man to marry a divorced woman.
For this is opposite to the word of God. Jesus said: The man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Matthew 5:32
To hold fast to this scripture is a fear of the Lord.
