More ... considering Philippians 4:8

From Pam Padgett ... teacher

Here's are my notes from considering Phil. 4:8 so far ...

PHIL 4.8. Finally, brethren,

whatsoever things are true, (according to fact, not concealed)

1John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

1 Thess. 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God:and the dead in Christ shall rise first:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

whatsoever things are honest, (free of deceit or untruthfulness, sincere)

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I (Jesus, the Word) am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The Word is honest, altogether true and will never fail.  The devil works with lies to try to steal, kill and destroy us. These lies cannot stand before the Word God gives me in the matter.

whatsoever things are just, (right, equitable, innocent)

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

whatsoever things are pure, (uncorrupted, not mixed/adulterated with any other substance)

the word of God is pure ...
Psalm 119:140  Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul:
the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart:
the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever:
the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold:
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned:
and in keeping of them there is great reward.

whatsoever things are lovely, (beautiful; delightful; gracious; having those qualities that inspire love, affection, admiration; morally or spiritually attractive.)

Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace;
that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

When we speak of God and what HE has done, this is lovely in the sight of God.  We may be despised by those who hear, but it is lovely to God.

Psalm 133.1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Psalm 33.1. Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.    (Comely ... pleasant to look at)

whatsoever things are of good report; ( a desired & approved account of what one has seen, heard, investigated, done)

When they returned from spying the land God promised to Israel, Caleb and Joshua gave a good report about the land.  They did not fear the inhabitants of the land, for they believed God and that Israel could overcome the inhabitants for God was with them.

Numbers 14:6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: 7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. 8 If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. 9 Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.

3John 1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

if there be any virtue, (behaviour showing high moral standards, strength)

Joseph would not have sex with Potipher's wife, and even fled from her ...
Genesis 39:7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

and if there be any praise,

God is worthy of praise ...
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

think on these things.

 Scriptures regarding Phil 4:8

True 1Cor10:13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Honest  Isaiah 40: 29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Just James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Pure Psalms 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven time

Lovely Romans 8: 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?.36As it is written,  For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Good report 1John 4:4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Virtue Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Praise Hebrews 13: 5Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
