πŸ’₯ There is no variableness nor shadow of turning with God

Barbara Preston, member of the body of Christ

James 1:17  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

When we believe we have heard from God, showing us something HE wants us to do, for example, we set out on that path HE has put us on.

Then, more than likely, the devil will come along and try to persuade us that God doesn’t want us to do that. HE wants us to do something else or wants us to do nothing, at all. This happens to me all the time.

But, if we are persuaded it was God WHO spoke to us, then we go forward in the faith we have.

This scripture tells us there is no “variableness” with God. What does this word mean?

Variable - fickle; given to change; unstable; capricious; flighty

I looked at these definitions and asked myself if they described the nature of God. Of course, they don’t.

And “shadow of turning.” We humans may change our minds from day to day, going one way and then another, in a moment of indecision. But God doesn’t. And how blessed we are that HE doesn’t do that!

But the devil always wants us to turn and go in a direction opposite to what God, through HIS Holy Spirit, tells us to go.

My husband and I recently moved closer to where my adult aged children live. We did that because, for a period of time, God had been showing me that this is what we needed to do because as we aged we would need help with certain things and would not be able to get this where we were living, at that time, which was about a three hour drive from where they lived.

Then later thoughts would come to me that we should not move, that it would be a terrible mistake to do this. But, for one thing, I had too much evidence from God that it was HIM instructing me that we should move. And also, I was reminded that God is not fickle, given to change, telling us to do one thing one day and then do the opposite thing the next.

I see the blessings we have been given by making this move. If God had not given me the wisdom to do this we would probably still be in the same multi-story house with a much bigger yard than we needed trying to hold things together with both of us becoming physically weaker rather quickly.

Neither of my children is born again, at this time, but they have been so thoughtful in helping us with things. I think they are both relieved that we are now closer, especially at our ages.

When our house just outside of Charlottesville, Va. was on the market I would look at it online sometimes, but I never once felt sad when I did this. What I felt was a deep gratitude that God had let us live there for the 16 years we did and how much we enjoyed it and the beautiful countryside.

And now HE has led us here and I would not want it any other way. Where would any of us be, if we did not have God watching over us and leading us?
