Pam Padgett, member of the body of Christ
On Monday morning of this week, I noticed that one of the cats, called "Cat", was drooling quite a lot and there was blood in the drool. It was obvious there was something wrong. (This was Joan Boney's cat. Joan and Cat lived at my house for six years before Joan died in May, 2025. Cat has remained with me as a member of my household, which includes 2 other cats and 2 dogs.)
I prayed about what to do and felt I should call the veterinarian, which I did. The vet could see Cat at 10am, so I prepared to take her to this appointment.
At first things went well, and I was able to put Cat in the carrier. But when she realized she was about to be shut up in the carrier, Cat began growling and hissing and jumping to try to get out. Before I could secure the zipper on the door, she had gotten out of the carrier and was determined that I not put her back in there.
I called the vet's office to cancel the appointment and explained what had happened. They told me another time was available in about 2 hours and if I could get Cat into the carrier by then, the vet could see her.
Then I remembered to pray and ask God to help me. An idea was given me (by the Holy Spirit) to work on the podcast which was to publish that night, letting Cat hear Joan's voice. As the podcast played, Cat visibly relaxed. By the time we needed to leave for the appointment, I was able to pick her up and put her in the carrier again and secure the zipper. She was not happy, but was safely in the carrier.
I also was reminded to pray for God to give wisdom to the vet in dealing with Cat and to me in terms of any decisions needing to be made.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
The vet needed to sedate Cat in order to examine her mouth and found that her teeth are in bad condition. One tooth was especially decayed and the vet felt that was probably causing the bleeding and drooling and quite a bit of pain. She was able to remove that tooth right away so Cat would have some immediate relief. I was very glad the vet did this.
We scheduled a dental procedure for next Monday. This will include removing any other teeth showing decay and likely causing pain. In the past I've had to schedule dental procedures several weeks ahead of time and was pleasantly surprised this could be done so quickly. The vet also provided some capsules of medicine to open, put in a little food, and give to Cat 2-3 hours before trying to put her in the carrier to go to the dental procedure, to help her relax.
When we returned from the exam, Cat seemed comfortable and as though feeling better. She will probably feel even better after recovering from the dental procedure next Monday.
I shared with our church group how God helped me with all of this. Juliett Walton was reminded that God's ways are perfect.
Deuteronomy 32:3-4 Because I will publish the name of the Lord (the Word given us by God): ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4 HE is the Rock, HIS work is perfect: for all HIS ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is HE.
2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, HIS way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: HE is a buckler to all them that trust in HIM. (We're also told this in Psalm 18:30)
God is even able to give us strength and make our ways perfect ...
Psalm 18:32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
